If I return my computer to factory settings (with the disk), will I have to re-install my DSL software? Or, on startup, will it recognize the DSL?

You will have to re-install anything that has been added since you bought the system. If you had to "install" it when you got it, you will have to re-install it.

no, your settings are saved in your modem :)

but be sure to disable your dsl (unplug the cable from your computer) till you have your antivirus installed. then you can plug your dsl back in

---edit---

if you have an external dsl modem you dont have to reinstall your dsl, those settings are not saved on your computer, you will on the other hand need to make sure you have the driver disk for your motherboad, (it has the driver for your ethernet adapter.) if you have additional dsl software you like to use then you will have to reinstall that (though not nessisary)

trust me, I am a computer tech.

The only thing you may have to do is make sure your home page is in the internet options properties window. The default setting will probably be msn.

Depends if you reset the drivers or if you reinstall the OS
