My step-dad was murdered last year and the murderer only got four years, which was shortened due to good behavior and overcrowded prisons. The victim had four kids, one less than a year old at the time. Is this justice?

This is disgusting and I really feel for you..

The problem with overcrowding with prisons in this country is they insist on locking people up that have committed non violent crimes.

I read of people being locked up for silly things, this one stands out - A woman had not returned her library books and could not afford to pa the fine as her husband would not give her the money and she could not work because they had a very young baby was sentenced to 2 weeks. -

Then the number of people that have been sentenced for not having a TV licence is really silly

Then they struggle to find space for those that have caused real suffering

But that is supposed to be so called british justice.

The problem with the British justice system is that we, the people, are far too easy on those people that run the country and it's institutions.
Let's get rid of all sitting MP's at the next election, no matter which party they represent, let's show them who,in the end,is really in charge.
You will never be ignored again!

The only thing I can see is they are way too easy on criminals. I long for the good OLD times when the murderers got what was coming to them. Their head on a poll outside The Tower of London.

I'm in the US but I've done my share of reading on the subject.

I was in court recently (to give testimony) & I realised the Judge has very limited power- he gets statements full of legal goobly-guke (can't spell that!) referring to sub-section 23, item 4b), paragraph 1.111... & so on, hardly anything makes sense. I actually thought the Judge was on valium.

If they made it illegal to keep prisoners on remand for so long, the prisons would be far less crowded.

Murder should receive a mandatory minimum sentence EG. 15 years, no parole. I don't believe in hanging. I believe in re-educating.

whats right with it i am sorry for what happened with your step dad but things are getting worse in the UK at one time if you murdered someone you would get life not any more you get released early for good behaviour our prisons are over run and the courts are giving out lesser sentences to alleviate this its not right if you commit a crime you should be punished severely

what a sad state our country is in, they should have hung the guy then there wouldn't be any over crowding, and he would not be free to do it again, lets face it out of prison so soon is hardly a deterrent is it.
