I use AVG free and its great. To download the latest definition file, you just open the Control Center and click update, then the virus scan will run fine. Alternatively, go to http://www.grisoft.com/doc/update/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 to get updates and transfer them to another PC via CD or flash drive. Ignore what everyone is saying about having to buy Anti virus software, AVG Free is fine and its certified by Windows (comes up green in the security center [not that thats much of a good indication =P] )

U can remove virus or similar threats from ur system using any good ANTIVIRUS Software available online 4 free( if u need 4 trial period) orelse u can buy (a 1 yr. period with regular updates through net).
For this some good AV softwares are NORTON / McAfee / recently AVAST AV / Bit Defender / Kaspersky.
u may visit: www.cnet.com
or searching directly through google
NOTE-- the Bit Defender u tried was online FREE SCAN & NOT virus removal one . So, get an AV s/w 4 removal of existing viruses on ur PC.

One thing that everyone must consider before getting anti-virus software. YOU HAVE TO BUY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE!! What you have is virus software that identify the sotware, but does not destroy it. My mother has gotten AVG as well and swears that she has virus protection, WRONG!!! She didn't read the fine print and what it said was anti-spy free edition software. So if you are looking for anti-virus protection sorry but you have to pay for it, computer software companies are trying to run a business here. My recommendation: Norton, Firefox, Zonelabs, or Mcafee. Or if you are low on cash, visit these websites and download there free trial software. They don't last as long as they do when you PURCHASE them, but they are equally efficient and destroys the viruses.

Click on the link below and scroll down the page to free online virus & spyware scans.
Select Panda.
When you get to their page, click on Scan My Computer button.
You'll then be taken to a page where you're given a choice of which areas to scan.
Select My Computer.
That will definitely fix your problem.
Good Luck.

Download a free trial version of Prevx1, I think it only last for about 30 days but it should be able to get rid of the current virus that you have on your computer. You should be able to google it and it should direct you to the Prevx1 site.

It is true that paying for a program will assure you of the best coverage. I have a friend who used free downloads which have worked well for her except the VirusScan. After her computer crashed she bought Norton. I have used McAfee for 6 years and it has worked well for me. I purchase McAfee in September at Home Depot or Staples, I can't remember which. Be sure to use the mail-in coupon and save photocopies of all receipts and next year's McAfee (in September) will even cost less for you.

Norton, McAfee, Panda Software & probably others have online removal tools. The other option is Ad-Aware if it's spyware.
