I am in my second year at University (contemporary fine art degree) and currently researching for my essay proposal. I have been researching so much that I've lost the plot. Underneath are a some of the research areas, so if anybody could help with a title and argument for my essay to help me condense my research I can maybe sleep at night ! Has anybody done an essay on similiar subject matter? Or can anybody recommend a free website with example essays and dissertations?

(RESEACH: Current representations of women within media - Artificial standard of beauty imposed - Innate female desire to be the 'ideal beauty' - Images of women that seem to have grown increasingly powerless, passive, sexualised and thinner as they gain greater power in society - Appearance and Power - Appearance discrimination - Feminist theory Re: The Ideal Beauty )

Can anybody help?

You asked for a title. how about 'Beauty Clicks'? Regarding material there must be numerous works more recent but I'd suggest contrasting the viewpoints expressed in Kenneth Clark's 'Feminine Beauty' with those expressed by writers like Dworkin, Greer and Paglia.

Flight of the Dove
How about that for a title, I think the Dove adverts using `real` women and the impact it has had on society must play a big part in any thesis on discussion of women and the media.

Why would using old and young women, women of all shapes and sizes make such an impact ? Is it a backlash to the way women are normally portrayed by the media ? are we at last seeing the end of the size `0` models. Has the impossible dream come to an end at last.

How about " The reawakening of Sleeping Beauty"? or " Sleeping Beauty, myth or fact?"
Is female beauty determined by external factors such as fashion, era, public taste, the press, men /or other women, designers, peer pressure, or is it something that comes from an inner perception and desire? What awakens the consciousness of her own worth?

You need to visit a number of art directors of magazines/ modelling agencies and interview them about their expectations and methods.

Try to meet some from previous decades too, and do some research of one particular label, say Chanel, over the decades, showing how differing feminine bodily ideals are reflected in their advertising.
