How hard is it to learn how to read music?

Question

i have been trying to play system of a down's "question!" for about a month now....and i basically learned by looking at the tab and learning the rhythm by ear....it took way too long to learn that song in my opinion...and if i could only read music...i think i would of learned the rhythm much faster....so...is learning to read music as tough as learning chinese or hebrew or spanish?..help...

i am a drummer at heart...but when it comes to learning other ppl's rythem...i have trouble...

The hardest thing about reading music is theory (ex. conducting in 2, in 3, reading 7/8 time, etc. etc.) but you probably wouldn't be doing that. The easiest music reading is for percussionists because they can take fingering and all that stuff out of their head. But it really is easy. go to this website to learn some theory it should help.

Learning to read music is actually rather simple. You can go to any local music shop and find books on learning to read, workbooks that is, and they are probably at local bookstores as well. First you have to learn the notes for what you'll be playing, then it's simply a matter of learning rhythym...full note, half note, quarter, sixteenths, crescendo, deminuindo and all that jazz. Once you start getting the hang of it things will just flow. Good luck.

It's not that hard at all. It's a bit confusing when you start, but there are loads of acronyms and stuff to help you (like every good boy deserves fudge or great big dogs from Africa) so you'll probs be okay. Good Luck!

I could never get past a whole note and a half note. To me a sound is a sound What in the world is a half a sound? LOL. Good Luck.
