I read some posts and they accuse others of being a "troll". What the heck is it? And please don't tell me it's a doll with ugly hair, or something that lives under a bridge. You know what I'm talking about here, when someone calls someone else a troll in a forum.

Trolling is running a boat slowly while dragging a line or several lines with lures or baited hooks on them. The idea is to stimulate fish to strike at the moving lure.

The language has been butchered to the extent that instead of calling people who "troll" verbally on a web site fishermen, they are called trolls (which are the creatures that live under bridges, or according to some live in the high mountains and eat the rocks.

"Troll," in the context of message boards and the like, describes somebody who is posting just to be confrontational or to raise hackles. One example might be a teenager who finds a Jewish message board and posts, "The Holocaust never happened." The teen may not know or care one way or the other--he just wants a reaction. He wants to piss people off. He is a troll

In Usenet newsgroups, email discussion lists, and online forums, a troll is not a grumpy monster that lives beneath a bridge accosting passers-by, but rather a provocative posting intended to produce a large volume of frivolous responses. The term can also refer to someone making such a posting ("a troll") or to the action ("trolling", "to troll").

A troll is a nasty troublemaker who says unpleasant controversial things on here for the sole purpose of winding people up and causing problems. They know who they are.

If anybody tells you it's to do with fishing.....they are talking about trawling, not trolling.

A troll is someone who writes an inflammatory comment, just to get people riled up. Many times they do it because they enjoy the attention.

stupid people who are stupid and ask stupid and silly questions and answers just to inflame people...its a sick world and these "trolls" are just part of the problem and not part of the solution. they live their lives in quiet desperation..pity them they need all the pity they can muster

and these trolls are very good at writing violations notices from Yahoo as they are so lame they only get their kicks messing with good people or people who show any brains
