Things to do for the kids? Boys, girls or both? What ages?

I can recommend The Rail Road Museum at Strasburg in Lancaster County about one hour east of Harrisburg. Good for the 5-12 age group unless they are really into trains.

Hersey Park, there's a free tour of the factory. Actually it's a small tour that ends in the gift shop. Then nearby is the admusment park, it's neat, safe and has a decent selection of rides. About 30 minutes away from Harrisburg.

For the parents I recommed going to the Stoudt Brewing Company, on Route 272 in Adamstown PA. Connected to the brewery is is one of the largest indoor flea / antique markets anywhere. There's some junk but mostly middle to high end merchandise. Also there is a three star steak house and Stoudt Village. Can spend a whole day there, about 1 hour east of Harrisburg.

About 30 miles south is Gettysburg. The town is a bit of a tourist trap but kids 12 and up might enjoy walking the battlefield. Around the whole battlefield felt like 6-8 miles. The Union lines are far more interesting than the Confederate lines if you only want to walk half the distance.

My wife and I have two boys, ages 12 and 15. These are places we have visited.

Hershey, PA is very fun and kid oriented. They have the chocolate museum with a ride and a huge gift shop.
