I'm in high school right now, but when I graduate and move on to bigger things in theatre, I want a stage name. My real name is Erin Nicole Crabtree, but I'm thinking of stage name being Erin Nicole Elliot. What do you think? I want to keep my first name, and I'm not doing Erin Nicole because too many people already use that name.

Stage Names are rather dated. There's nothing wrong with your own name.

In general, I think a two name stage name is best. Three sounds pretentious. And I agree that Erin Nicole is not a good choice. In the first place it sounds too much like Anna Nicole and it would, in a sense, give people a false idea of you by association. They would inevitably think of Anna Nicole. You want to establish your own stage presence and personality and you want people to think of you, when they think of you, and not start out with a pre-packaged image, as it were.

Erin is a beautiful name. Nicole is a beautiful name. Use either, but choose between them. Which name do you identify with most? Choose that one.

Erin Elliot flows nicely, but maybe too nicely. It has no punch.

Nicole Elliot is stronger.

I actually don't like the name Elliot very much for a last name for an actress.

You may think it odd, but I think Erin Crabtree is a more memorable name. It stands out. If you are a good actress, then it is a name that won't be forgotten. It is a name with both the poetic and prosaic in it, and I like it.

If you object to Crabtree because you think it isn't pretty enough, although just think of Crabtree and Evelyn, the quite upscale scent company, then I think you should still pick a name of no more than two syllables for your last name. EC make nice initials together, so I'd find another C name for my last name.

No matter what name you choose, you are the one who will give it class. Meryl Streep was a name I didn't think very pretty, but she gave it the stature and class it has.

Emma Thompson and Judie Dench are workmanlike names,
but there are none of any greater stature in the world of theatre.

But personally I like Erin Crabtree the best.

Hey Ho and break a leg,

Maggie

Erin is a very pretty name, and personally, I think Erin Crabtree is a fairly original name. But if you really want a stage name, I'm going to be honest: I think Erin Elliot may not be the best choice. This is just my opinion, but I think the two Es aren't so good together. I think your name with an "L" or a "C" for the last name might sound nicest. I hope you don't take offense to that, I just think it might sound better than the repeating initials. You should definetely keep Erin, though--that name is so beautiful!!

Erin Nicole Elliot isn't bad, quite frankly, but if you're not sure about it, perhaps you can get something out of this classic formula. In the old days, young starlets used to take their middle name as their first name and the street they grew up on as their last name. So, for instance, my name is John Michael Deschene and I grew up on Porter Street, so my stage name would be Michael Porter. Just a thought.
