Bamboo, once you get it to grow, it seems practically indistructable!

Amen to that! Check with a nursery about which type to plant. It generally spreads, but I've read that some is much worse than other types. Make sure your area allows bamboo to be planted. It'e considered a real pain in some states.

Bamboo, good, but for a faster growth look for "Giant grass" at a nursey. I grew up with it, calling it cane or bamboo, but recently found out is actually giant grass. Stalks are about an inch in diameter once they get going. You do have to chop them down to the ground in the winter..then it comes back in the spring
