My 15 year old child went to BYOB establishment w/out my consent. She was taken by ambulance under the assumption of alcholic poisoning. Owners of this place know minors are drinking but are being protected due to the fact they are not serving acholic. Police came to hospital to write her a minor in comsumption ticket before lab work ever came back. I do not understand how this can continue to happen. Many other minors there had been drinking and many adults were contributing. Should she be the only one held liable for this? What happened to tagging minors to know if they were old enough to be drinking or not? Pay your $10 come on in and find an adult half intoxicated and have all you want is the sounds of it. Yes she should be punishedd but is she the only one? TABC has had hard times doing something since this place carries no license. The thought sickens me. The law enforcement stated Thank God she isnt here for a rape kit, its common for adults to TANK UP YOUNG GIRLS

that's a lame excuse for them to hide behind any such law by skirting it

a community can drive any sort of business out by active protesting and making such business's unwelcomed

There may or may not be a law that protects BYOB establishments from authorizing or permitting adults in said establishment from serving liquor to minors, but if there isn't, there certainly should be. It's no different than if a child goes to a friend's house, brings his own booze, and gets drunk while the parents are there. I think the blame would be on the parents of the child who has the booze (even without their knowledge and consent) and on the parents who have permitted a child to drink in their home, since he or she is underage. Whoever has purchased the liquor for the child, if the purchaser is of legal age, then that person should be held responsible. If the owner of an establishment that serves liquor and allows a minor to buy liquor, that person is subject to a fine or jail sentence. In other words, any adult who buys liquor for a minor, sells liquor to a minor, allows a minor to drink either in an establishment that doesn't serve liquor, or a friend's parent allows a minor to drink in a friend's home without the minor's parent's permission, that person is the one that should be arrested.

As for your child, you had better keep a closer surveillance on her, because even though the other adults in question are at fault, you are still her parent and you are ultimately responsible for her welfare, especially since she had a case of alcoholic poisoning. I don't want to alarm you, but that has the potential of being fatal. Your child is your most precious possession. Know where's she's at, who she is with, and what she is doing at all times. Check up on her if you must, and impose stricter rules. If she violates them, then she should be grounded. A word to the wise will be hopefully sufficient. Good luck to you!

Depends on the state as to the law. As for everyone else there being punished. No they didn't get caught. It may seem unfair but that's the way it is. It is just like driving down the road and everyone is speeding but only one car gets pulled over. You should take better care for your daughter and know where she is at all times. I know she probably lied to you but that would never happened if you had a close relationship with her. In this modern time with the use of cell phones you should always know where you daughter at. When I was growing up in Thailand I had to check in with mother or father every hour until I was 19 yrs old. We did not have drinking age and I drink when I was 16 but with my father. He made sure I learn to respect the effects of drink and now I see all kind alcoholics and I am glad he did.

well first and foremost, you should know where your 15 year old daughter is. Second, she should not break the law and drink under age. So I would say there is a lot of accountability on those two ends before you even get to the person who owns the place where kids sometimes drink. They are only responsible to not serve alcohol, or to ID if they do serve alcohol. Everyone else is responsible for themselves, and I would say, since your daughter drank so much that she needed to go to the hospital, there is something very wrong, and it isn't the first time she did it. Yoiu will do a great disservice to her and you, if you do not take responsibility, or deny HER responsibility to this

Also, she is the one who had to go the hospital, so yeah, she will get busted worse than someone else who didn't require the time of the police and ambulance.

Your priorities are not in the right place. Your 15 year old child was in a place where she knew she wasn't allowed, and drinking alcohol underage. I agree with law enforcement...I'm glad she wasn't drugged and gang raped. YOU are the Mother, only you can turn this into a learning experience. Why are you defending her? Why are you trying to get her out of this? She broke the law, now she is feeling the much deserved consenquences. Learn from this, fix it, and move on.
