Does installing a new sims 2 pack invalidate the other? I.e, will "pets" make it so I can't create a biz?

I think I know the answer, but I wanted to be sure and nothing on the net is very helpful. I'm getting Sims 2 will all the packs except the new seasons one, but anyway I would like to be able to utilise elements from all of them (university, nightlife, etc.) By having pets installed, will I still have use of the custom areas introduced in nightlife and open for business, as well as the university? Do these packs all build on to each other? I guess what it all boils down to is: Can I create a business downtown, send a kid off to university and have a bloody cat in my house, all at once? They add on to each other, you shouldn't have a problem at all.
