Being a former resident of the Detroit area, Detroit is a very dull city. Just the city itself does not have too much to offer. It has less that 10 museums, a few parks here and there, and casinos that do not help the city. The only reasons why someone actually goes to Detroit is for either a sporting event, a concert, or a special event like the Fireworks Show on the Detroit River.
There are several reasons why I believe people think that Detroit is a bad place. My reasons are;

1. Not too much to offer for entertainment in the City of Detroit.

2. Poor public transportation.

3. Corrupt Government.

4. City is filled with crime and vacant buildings.

5. Detroit is not vibrant and cosmopolitan.

6. Detroit has a public school system that has extremely poor standards.

I do hope that one day in the future, Detroit can be like a Cleveland or a Chicago but I do not see much hope for a city that is not optimistic about the future because all they talk about is moving forward by everyday they take one step back.

I lived 45 west of Detroit for most of my life. Detroit is really dirty! The only time I've seen it clean was when the city overhauled it for the Superbowl. The city even managed to gather up all the bumbs, and hide them during the Superbowl. I've had my car broken into downtown. One of my freinds ex-boyfriends got addicted to heroin. He moved out of our quiet little suburb, and move to Detroit where he fit right in. But I really can't say Detroit is really much worse than most big cities. There is also a lot to do downtown. I used to be big into punk rock, and there were so many little clubs I could go to every weekend to check out a band. Detroit has a lot of bars with a lot of charisma. They have Hockeytown.......probably the best thing about Detroit (I'm a wings fan). Casinos. There is a lot of entertainment worth checking out in Detroit. Plus it has a great history.........Motown!

Actually I'm going to Detroit for Wrestlemania. However, I have to admit I am a little scared. Robocop did it for me. Also Detroit gets a bad rep from movies just like Robocop and all the negative publicity it gets. I have a friend that lives in Detroit and the only interesting thing he can tell me to do is go to Canada because you go down instead of up. I mean outside of Motown there's really nothing that sparks my interest. I posting a question on here hoping people can help me out because with the research that I've done so far it looks like I'm spending the majority of the time in Canada and I really don't want to that.

Let's see...I lived in Detroit for 22 years. I guess getting mugged 3 times isn't so bad for 22 years. lol Hmm...multiple cars were stolen, stolen airbags, multiple attempted breakins... Yeah, Detroit ain't so bad! HA! Listen, I moved on up outta the city when I was 22 and never looked back. I saw my neighborhood go from something beautiful that you would see in a movie, to a ghetto-trashy-crime filled-@#$cked up neighborhood! It's fine that you like it. I would never choose to live there again, though. Too many idiots who try to act like they are soooooooooo cool because they can carry a gun (illegally, of course) and pull it out on you to rob you. "Ooooh, lemme carry a gun and shoot innocent people because I'm too lazy and cool to get a real job!" Suprise! I carry, too! But mine is legal...Years of putting up with the Detroit ghetto BS has made me a little bitter towards the city. Nothing personal, ya'll! lol Oh, another thing...when I needed 911, the number was busy! And another (few times) at my place of employment we were robbed and we called the police and they didn't show up for a few HOURS! lol Now THAT is ridiculous ya'll!

Detroit's not bad at all. I hate all the people who have never been there and talk about how terrible it is. When the Superbowl was here they had a bunch of people from the suburbs on tv talking about how they'd never been in the D, and they were proud of it! The only reason their 'burb exists is because of Detroit!
It has it's problems, but so does everywhere else.

I agree with the Mr Conservative , he is right about the city 100%.
as a former Detroit er my family moved because of the crime and the schools and the shitty police dept. . My parents did not want me to get hurt / rape.like my best friend did.
My friend (Jane Doe ) was only one block away form home when she was attacked and the police just laugh at her.
So you can see why people and my self don't like the city.

Hey look at all the shootings this week on children , on children. please tell me why the two little boys were murdered , why they were tried up and executed?

Like my friend who just came back form Iraq says it is much safer in Badgad than his own hometown.

I was born and raised in Detroit. I moved out when I was 30. If it hadn't been deteriorating, I would have stayed....but it WAS so I DIDN'T.

Only people that are lame and afraid of anything that moves think Detroit is a bad place. They most probably haven't ever been there.
