He needs the nutrition and antibodies that your breastmilk can give him, so yes I would wake him up. An adult could just sleep off something like this and know when a good time to try to eat something is. But your baby doesn't know any better yet, so you have to help him out. Try your best to wake him up and get him to just eat a little. Hang in there! This should pass just like your doctor says.

I would try to nurse him, he can nurse in his sleep.
It is hard to tell you how to baby proof your bed, only you know what your bed is like and how much your son moves. You could put the crib mattress on the floor and baby proof the room a bit (whatever room you choose) then you can nurse him while you both lay down. He should be able to latch on without really waking up.
If he doesn't pee in each 6 hour period go to the ER.
You could try some oral rehydration solution (pedialyte) but it really isn't appropriate for breastfed babies. If you have a syringe or dropper you could try giving him some expressed milk that way.
DON'T give him water. If you must give him something other than breastmilk it must have an appropriate electrolyte balance. You can find recipes for it here (NOTE: some recipes call for honey or corn syrup which are not appropriate for children under 1 year)

WAKE HIM UP ... he needs to eat. Going to long without food can cause him to dehydrate. Even though he is sick he still needs he nourshiment.
I can't believe that your DR said he was not worried about it. I would take him back to ER and ask to have another DR look at him. My daughter just got admitted into the hospital last week for the ROTO virus (bad stomach FLU) and that sounds like what your son may have because a normal Stomach FLU usually runs its course in about 24-48hrs.

wake him. A 7th month old without food and no liquids for 12 hours doesn't sound quite right. Explain to your doctor what is going on. A mother has the best insteeins. i had a heart disease and my doctor told my mom a=it was nothing but it turned out 2 days later i was fighting for my life. Take him to the ER . Its better safe then sorry.
good luck

Wake him, make sure he's ok, then try to breastfeed him. If he wont' take the milk, try a bit of water. As long as you get some fluids into him, he won't dehydrate. I'd schedule an emergency doctors appointment with his own doctor. Or take him to a local children's hospital. Two days isn't a tremendously long time, but the sleeping so long is a worrisome thing. I'm mom to 3.

I would pump and feed him from the bottle, it is easier than sucking on the breast. Since he hasn't eaten for 12 hours, his blood suger must be very low and that might make him too weak to wake up and nurse.

Sounds to me like you need to take a trip back to the ER or call the babies Dr. Twelve hours without any type of liquid scares me.

No, I would wake him up and take him to the ER right away. I sounds like he may be dehydrated. For a child, your hydration status can change quickly. He probably needs IV fluids right away.
If you ever feel something is not right with your child, act on your first instinct, it is usually right, we have mommy senses!
GO BACK TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM....

I would take him back to the hospital. If he hasn't been breastfeeding, you want them to check him for dehydration--which is extremely serious. Signs of dehydration are listlessness (which in your case could be the sleeping), hollowed out looking eyes. I would do it just to be better safe then sorry; they may want to give him fluids through the I.V. just for a fill-up.
