I feel like I am constantly dusting and cleaning up dog hair! Is there anything I can do to minimize the dust and pet hair? I have one dog, a jack russel, and she is not allowed on furniture anymore. We have hardwood floors. I'm sick of dusting and cleaning up pet hair, but keeping her outside isn't an option. Is there anything I can do?

First, change your filters every 2 weeks. I know that seems to be excessive, but it will help enormously with dust. Also, bathe the animals either outside or take them to be groomed monthly. Swifter's are great, but spray a little pledge clean and shine on them first, it will keep the dust from sticking. Finally, if you can afford it,indulde in a spring clean with proffessionals, they can get it at top condition, and then maintaining it isn't so bad. Good Luck!

I feel your pain. Pet hair is my biggest cleaning nightmare. For dusting I use a Swiffer duster with the disposable pads. They work great. They are chemically treated to pick up dust rather than just spreading it around.

We have 3 cats. Two of them are long haired Somalis. If it's not their hair I'm cleaning up, it's mine. I vacuum twice a week, and brush down the furniture with a clean "dish brush" before I vacuum. I also use Arm & Hammer Carpet & Room Carpet deoderizer.....it helps get all the hair out of the carpet and into the vacuum and eliminates pet odors. There is also a product you can buy at PetSmart that you can put in their food to help control shedding. I think it's called Shed Relief, or Shed X (ask the folks at PetSmart---they'll be able to tell you) And I even got one of those "grooming combs" that gets at the underneath hair. I get so much hair off these little guys I swear if I had a loom I could knit me a whole new cat.

Have you tried using a swifter, I also use Spontex clothes , like little duster´s you clean all the furniture with these Great for the TV , computer everything really . I dust every 3 days most times there´s something in these little clothes that stop the dust settling back onto the furniture . The first time I used them I found myself looking for something to clean really quit amazing, Hope you can find them where you live , even a damp cloth helps to clean dust ,but nothing like Spontex dusters

As you can afford to, try replacing very dark or very light furniture with more neutral colored woods. They will show the dust less. Also, change your furnace filter - that is a big one. If you have oil heat that is a big dust-maker. Hardwood floors are a lot of work -perhaps get some area rugs to cover them up and catch some of the stuff. Consider switching to a better quality food, also. Shedding can be reduced with a better food.

If you find out - let me know. Someone should invent some kind of vacuum that has an outlet in each room of the house that is either constantly on or can be turned on by a switch & it immediately sucks all the hair & dust into it.
