Being that you have a diesel engine, Mercedes Benz 240D(iesel) it is usually a good recommendation to follow what the manufacturer states in your owners manual, but, depending on the yr/make/model some will tell you 30W and some say 40W. Personally I have found that diesels will run better if you put 30W5 in and try to change oil every 3500miles.

Good luck and hope this helps.

In the winter or the summer? as the 'type' or 'grade' of oil is dependent upon the operating temperature that the vehicle is operated in.

Most diesels use 15W40 but I preferred to use synthetic 5W50 myself as that covers ALL climate temperatures.

Synthetic oils last longer, up to 15,000 km (9,000 Mile) between oil changes, but I would recommend that at (around) every 5000 Km (3000 Miles) you change the Oil Filter ONLY....then refill whatever is missing, better still is to fill the empty (new) oil filter with new oil prior to putting it on.

Consult your owners manual for manufacturer's recomendation on what oil to use, using any other oil may void any warranty you have with them. And change your oil every 3 months or 3000 Miles.
