I have always wondered that, My church is accepting of gays and trans, I belong to a United Methodist church. The Jesus I have read of in the Bible taught love and compassion, not hate. We are people too, and not much different from anyone else.

Jesus DOES except everyone, BUT Jesus ALSO wants YOU to accept him also. I'm never cruel towards queer people, I just state the facts, whether you take that as me being mean and cruel is your interpretation. For example, when I hear the word "GAY", I think of the word happy not homosexual, I don't even relate the 2 words, so that's why I never say it in one of these discussions. OH, and God made Adam(male) and Eve(female), not 2 of the same, otherwise none of us would be here. You people need to be thankful of that. Even if you dont believe in god, that fact still doesn't change that a long time ago there were only few humans and they had kids which lead to us.

Hmmm. I wonder the same thing! I think our society is changing and the churches are not so readily willing to change with it. I think alot of churches use God as a fear mechanism to try to "scare people in to doing good". I guess if they figure if they use this tecnique- they will scare people "straight" (Pun intended). But you and I both know that it isnt so easy as that. THere is so much more to transgenderism and homosexuality then religion. I believe- if there is a God and he/ she loves us all equally and wants us all to do good things.
Religion is one of the oldest things in the world and you have heard the saying- "You cant teach an old Dog new tricks"...not immediately at least. I foresee little by little as these things become more socially acceptable- most churches will come around. Because remember- we are the future and if the church refuses to change with our society- there will be no church goers. TH echurches will die out- and they dont want to die out

First of all, you don't need a "Church" to be saved and go to heaven. God gave you a brain and you can read his words, The Bible, on your own.
Second, never put a group of human beings over what God has spoken to us. Humans are are not perfect, especially the church.
The only thing that I believe would cause friction on this topic between churches and the gay community, is that the community is trying to convince people all over the world that they were "made" to be this way.
God would not make something just to turn around and condemn them. How could being gay be the most abominal sin (taken from the words of the Bible) if God made someone that way....
There have always been a gay community since the beginning of time. But why in today's world does it seem to be more of them? It shouldn't be accepted, nor condemned....in my opinion. Do whatever you want, just leave me out of it. My question to the community is "Why do you care what I think???"
All of us should be asking ourselves, 'Who am I to judge?' This is not our job. It's God's, so just leave it up to Him.

I don't understand it either. It's very frustrating for me, as my dad is transgendered. It's so hard to deal with people that are so condemning of people with different lifestyles. There were family friends my parents had known for over 20 years, and when my dad came out, they simply turned their back on us. Our old church basically did the same thing. My grandma even got threats from a couple people about my dad. How can people in a church, who are supposed to be accepting and loving of people, do such a thing? It's just ridiculous how cruel people can be sometimes. It's not like my dad has done anything terribly wrong. She still lives with the family, still cares for our family, is very successful in her career, and is otherwise completely normal. Every time I hear people insulting transgendered people, it feels like a direct hit to my family. My dad has done nothing wrong, and it is wrong that religious groups are condemning my dad for this.

Sadly, because some Christians are more into judging than loving. Even though we're told it is not our job to judge.
I believe the words of the Bible to be true and just as needed today as back then. The Bible was written by human hands, but directed by God. All sexual sin is wrong, all sin is wrong. We grade sin by human standards, not Godly standards. It is impossible for us to look upon the heart as God does. We can only see the outward. It is wrong of us to judge and/or condemn.
Why do we do it? I think it's because of our beliefs. Our beliefs tell us that sin separates us from God and if we are living an unrepentant lifestyle and not under God's grace, we're doomed. We don't want to see anybody suffer away from God. But I have to agree with you, hating the person or their lifestyle is not going to bring them any closer to becoming whole with God.
Yes, Jesus does love and accept us just as we are, we don't have to 'clean up' before we accept Him. However, He doesn't want to see us caught in any sinful lifestyle once we have accepted Him as Saviour. We can't continue in sin once we belong to Him. We have to try and become more like Him every day. We can't keep thinking we can sin and grace will increase proportionately. It doesn't work that way. Christ Himself told us we can't love two masters because we'll hate one and love the other. And if we love our sinful lifestyle and continue in it, then that can only mean we must hate Christ.
And you know sexual sin covers more than just homosexuality. It covers adultery, lust and whatever other 'lifestyle' you can think of there. I think the reason sexual sin is an abomination in the eyes of God is because it's a sin against (or taken into) our own bodies. And our bodies are created in the image of God and are supposed to be temples onto the Lord.
Sin is sin and sin is anything (anything at all) that keeps us apart from God. But, yeah. Christians should quit judging and start loving. I can guarantee you that if Christ were here, He would be spending time and breaking the bread with sexual sinners. And loving you as I'm sure He does.
Have a great day!

I think that everybody has tendencies towards loving both genders, the "Christians" know this, and Gay/TG/Bi folks remind them of it, so they are freaking on the inside & mean on the outside. They also think that Gay/B/TG is contagious, or that those people who are, recruit new practitioners.
That said, I also think that the Hell the "Christians" believe in will hold a special place for those who turn Gay/TG/Bi people out of their churches.
In most larger cities there are churches called "Unity" who accept anyone and everyone, lovingly and respectfully.
Good luck.

This should tell you about the intolerant, violent nature of most religions, esp. Xtianity. It has a LONG history of torturing anyone it chooses, from the slaughter of Celtic Pagans, to repeated purges of Jews throughout Europe and Russia, to the Crusades (at least most of the Muslims were equipped to fight back--yet more violence!), to the Inquisition, to more massacres of Native Americans in the New World, to the Salem Witch trials (and other such horrors), to the use of "Christianity" by racist killers to "justify" lynchings or Blacks, Jews, gays, the retarded...and basically, anyone they didn't like, to the Holocaust.
If your church does NOT engage in at least some form of this, then it's truly unique!
P.S.: The Old Testament (or NT) does NOT mean anything, in terms of actual ethics in modern times, nor should it! It was written by people who were ignorant of human behavior and science, whose superstition and xenophobia governed everything!

Some would say that it's their own demons that causes these "Holy" places to discriminate in such ways. Personally, I think it's because God hates gays. It's in the Bible. Leviticus says "Man shall not lye down with a man like he would a woman for it is an abomination, and their blood shall be upon them." If you don't believe me, just look it up. It's in the 20th verse of either chapter 20 or 21 or 22. I can't remember which one, but it's in there. Don't tell me that the Old Testament means nothing either. Because if you're going to use a guide book for your life philosophy, then you should use it all.

I often wonder if there is really persecution of gays in church. I realize that somewhere it will always be found, but I wonder if it really happens to the degree you describe. If so, it is sad because the mean people are wrong to do that. But is it really happening? I have never seen it. I have a gay friend who attends church and he has never mentioned this happening to him.
