If you have the windows installation cd, try removing the internet explorer program and reinstalling it. to do this, go to control panel, add remove programs, add/remove windows components and find internet explorer in the list, untick it and ok to remove. then do the same process but tick the box again, it may ask for you disk to reinstall so make sure you have it.
if this fails, try installing firefox browser (get a friend to download it) or Opera.

right lets get you online!,first we have to split this problem into different catorgories
first we shall look at hardware, right first we need to check your network card ,go to control panel>system properties>hardware>device manager>then look for the entry for network adapters and expand this and double click the adapter you are using,if it says "device is working properly, thats fine,if not then a new network adapter is needed(this could be your problem)
then a simple check,go to your router and switch it off for 30 seconds(no lights or nothing)then switch it back on,if there is a reset button hold it in for 15 seconds then release, wait for all the lights to be lit and then test connection, any luck?
if you are using a usb connection, then either change to ethernet(network)type socket or check your usb ports in device manager(use same method as before)
finally you need to check all cables and wires from your router/modem ,this includes ethernet,usb,5v power cable, adsl cable from your phone socket, and also the microfilter(this happened to e,the first microfilter i used from the bt home hub was defective and never worked, but you should normally get 2 or 3 with your router),if needed replace any cables that are defective
right software,if your router/modem comes with any software, then these are not allways needed, most software is only used for usb drivers and any special additional programs from your i.s.p such as anti-virus and security,if you are using a ethernet connection you can normally just plug and connect(as long as you are suing a ethernet cable, sometimes known as a rj-45 or network patch cable)
when you plug in your ethernet cable to the network card at the back of your p.c,check to see if any l.e.d lights come on,again if this dosent occur then theres a good chance that the card is defective
another test(urgh,h) go to start>run and type cmd then press return, you will then go to the command prompt window, now type this in.....ping_www.bbc.co.uk....then press return
this will run what we call a ping test, what you should see is 4 packets of data sent to the bbc website and returned, you will get a result in milliseconds,it should be around 30 to 40 milliseconds,if you get 4 packets returned then at least you know your on-line as this wouldnt work if you were not
so if you got a positive result fro your ping test then we shall use a alternative browser,go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/,and download the mozzila firefox browser, this is similar to internet explorer but much safer and faster, install this and see if you can get online
if not then you need to go right click internet explorer, this will take you to internet options, then go to "delete temp internet files and delete these, plus your cookies and internet history, then go to security and advanced tabs and reset all settings in each of these
thenif all of this fails then i am afraid i would be looking at a windows re-installation as somewhere along the line a system file has become corrupt and is affecting your network settings
i personally think its a hardware problem ,and if i were a betting man i would go for the network adapter and cables first, especially the micro-filter,as all the routers i have ever had have allways had at least 1 defective filter
please let me know if you get it working(online)
good luck mate

With as many IE7 system defects as i have heard about, extremely frankly IE6 is a extra solid browser. :-P yet, dropping the editorializing and attending on your question ... in case you uninstall IE7 (administration Panel - upload/eliminate courses), your workstation will roll itself decrease back to IE6. And certain, you'll nevertheless be in a position to get on-line. yet another danger is to receive the present loose version of Firefox. yet because it sounds like IE7 has tangled up your connection, you opt for to get that fixed first. nevertheless yet another danger: do a gadget restoration to some extent earlier you downloaded the present round of updates. that ought to get IE7 operating back. Then, even as homestead windows once back provide you with the updates, use the custom mode and decline the replace for IE7. wish that permits. solid success!
