Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will feel that their sorority is best. You should visit http://www.aka1908.com/ and http://deltasigmatheta.xohost.com/index.html . Visit different chapter websites through Greek Pages http://www.greekpages.com/org/ converse with members of both organizations. It is not for anyone, especially on the internet, to tell you whch one is best. You have to check out the programs that each sorority has to offer, see if you agree with what is said. Sororities are lifetime commitments and this is especially emphasized in NPHC sororities. You have to make the decision for yourself, you will have to be the one to commit to the sisterhood of your choice. I hope you are able to gain information that helps you choose an organizaton.

Good Luck

I am a Lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, advising you that if you're unsure about which of the two organizations you should choose (by the way, AKA chooses you; you don't choose AKA), then you should go DST. The First and Finest KNOW there is no other organization. Plus, it sounds like you were initially basing your decision on your family's history, not your own experiences. Now that you have learned about both and have recognized qualities that you possess which are like the women of DST, your decision has been made. AKA and DST have a bit of a shared history (we won't go into that!), and therefore you will find some of the same qualities and characteristics in both. Still, you sound like a Delta to me! :) Good Luck!!

Well, I never doubted my decision to become a lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha. I saw something in the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha who presented me with a scholarship when I graduated from High School and when they presented me with certificates for my academic and community-service oriented activism (as a high school student), I knew that I wanted to help the community through sisterhood. These ladies were always so sophisticated and well-versed and I aspired to be like them (and they weren't afraid to get their hands dirty). Essentially, you must look at each Sorority (whether it is Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta or Sigma Gamma Rho) and determine which road is for you. As another one of my Sorors said earlier, you must research to determine which road is best for you. You get NO DO-OVERS . . . I never felt that there was another way for me; however, everyone's path is different. Take adequate time and determine yours . . .

Sororities are great to be involved in. Don't let anypne try to talk you out of that. Personally, I am A Kappa so that's my choice for best house, but you need to decide what house is best for you. Where do you feel most comfortable? Where do you feel most welcome? Sororities are a great networking source. You will make some great life long friends.

Research by the sorority web pages and I also like the book the divine nine by Lawrence C. Cross, Jr it gives a description of all black greek sororities and fraternities. Go with what you want if you are not sure don't join any sorority.

None of the so called "divine 9" is good to be apart of. Do your research before joining any of these sororities. The Divine 9 is not so Divine. Read these death and injury reports: Alpha Kappa Alpha- California State University students 22 yr old Kristin High and 24 yr old Kenitha Saafir, drowned at the beach, blindfolded and tied by their hands and bodies. Omega Psi Phi- At the University of Maryland pledges were beaten for 2 months all hospitalized, injuries were a ruptures spleen, collapsed lung, liver damage, cracked ribs, punctured ear drum (deaf in one ear) fractured ankle and a concussion. 2004- Sigma Gamma Rho- Jonetta Reed A Toledo student suffered internal bleeding due to paddling, and had to undergo emergency surgery.

Please do your research. The above information came from the website http://www.divinetruthishere.com/. Read everything. Also visit http://www.dontgogreek.com/

there both great org for sisters. everybody can't be a aka or dst. i'm a loner and a leader, i follow no one. so thats why i don't belong to any type of sororities. but i support them, because some people need to belong to something, nothing wrong with that.

How can you talk about these silly things? I suppose that you are a quite educated woman to talk about those eccentric aspects!

If I pledge it will be Delta or Zeta. The one's at my school seem more down-to earth and nicer. AKA's here seem stuck-up (im sure they're not ALL like that) and they've been taking off line for hazing last semester. Besides I HATE the color pink! Well good luck!

Both sororities are focused on looking cute everyday at school as opposed to actually paying attention to school instead of their appearance. They are both good for networking though. Deltas I've met are more down to earth though. AKA's tend to be more snobbish. That's not true with EVERY person in those groups, those are just my observations from the colleges I've attended. Which colors complement your skin tone best? PinkNGreen or RedNWhite?
