Like so many other people I LOVE music and have a big selection of different music. I was thinking of starting a blog of sorts where I add a 30 second clip of a song and then give my view or opinion about it.

But, of course, there is the Copyright issues. I have no idea how this works or where I can get more info on this specific topic.

Any help/advice would be great.

Most composers would not mind the publicity, especially if you give proper credit. Contact them directly, or you can pay streaming fees to their performance organization either ASCAP, BMI or SESAC.

However if you have taken the music from CDs, the RIAA will sue for the recording rights. The RIAA does allow streaming of recordings via internet if you pay fees. The fees are not expensive, about a penny per song but they apply to every listener and you have to keep extensive documentation.

If you publish (including posting to a website) copyrighted music without the permission of the owner, you can be sued.
