Common law is derived from Feudal England. Our law system, civil law, is based off of common law. When there are no laws applicable to civil law, our system is designed to default to common law.
Islam is the combination of church and state. The law system holds true all religious laws, the laws reflect the religion and the religion reflect the laws.
They have a good system, they get peace through strict religion.
We have a good system, we get peace by tolerating everyone.
So all we have to do is extend that tolerance and let them have their own system and we can be at peace. They will not ever be able to invade America, so let them have the sand.

Civil law is a sub-sect of common law.
Common law is based upon the customs of the people of an area, primarily England, but it spread to Europe and the United States and other "Western" countries.
Islamic law is based upon the religious laws of the Koran.
