my cat got really hurt after falling off eight stories. Thank God he's alive but he's sprained bothe of his hind legs. It is so sad seeing him move because he starts crying because he's only 2 years old. Is there anything i could do to help him? I've taken him to the vet and all that , but i want to know if there is anything i can do to make sure he won't die. Please help me! I feel so sad, i've never felt this way before and i'm still in shock from what happened today. Please help my kitty..

Sweetheart, your vet should have told you what to do physically to help your poor kitty. Shame on him if he didn't. It can be hard with cats because they're so independent. Still, if he's hurting, maybe he wants to stay closer to you? If so, make it easy for him to be close to you without having to jump up and down, and try to take some extra time to sit and hold him so he'll be spending more time sitting quietly to heal. If there are places he likes to jump to, see if you can put stools, chairs, even boxes at those places so he can do it in a couple of phases, both up and down so there's less pressure on his legs. Ask your vet if there's anything safe you can give him to relieve the inflammation of the sprains. Most of all, give him lots of love and attention. Good luck to you and your precious kitty. :-)

What did your vet do, anyway? Your cat should have been x-rayed for internal injuries, and given a painkiller or muscle relaxant specifically for cats, preferably by injection for fast action. Tramadol is safe for cats, but is only available from a veterinarian.

First, in case you do not know this, DO NOT GIVE YOUR CAT TYLENOL, or any anti-inflammatory with acetaminophen. This will kill your cat.

If no anti-inflammatory drug was given, call your vet and tell him your cat needs something. You can make your kitty more comfortable by putting him on a heating pad on "Low," covered with a nice thick towel (and the cord where he can't chew it), or take plain rice, put it in an open Baggie, microwave on High for two or three minutes, seal it and wrap it in a towel for several hours of warmth.

I am surprised they did not give him any kitty pain medication. Be that as it may, most stores with pet supplies will have arthritis medication which has a pain reliever in it. That would be my suggestion. They generally have a weight dosing guide on the back to tell you how much to give him. Hope he feels better. Just as a word of caution, with a fall that height, keep an eye on his potty habits too to make sure there were not other injuries internally.

Just give him something soft and cuddly to sleep on like flannel blanket and make sure his food, water and litter box are nearby so he doesn' t have to go far for it.
