I confess, my personal life has been very stressful (loss of job, parents fighting, finances stressed) but I felt myself ovulate (that is not something I can miss or attribute to something else!) about three weeks ago, and normally within a week to two weeks my flow starts. Also, my breasts have been achingly tender for well over a week and a half (36D, talk about pain!). The First Response test came back positive but could stress be a factor? My boyfriend and I have been using condoms ever since I felt the ovulation happen. Can someone who actually knows what's going on kindly tell me what the heck is happening? My flow isn't perfect but it is regular and could time of day taking the test factor in (I took it in the afternoon).

Just a brief note to clarify: I'm 26, both my boyfriend and I come from large families and he's already said that, should I ever get pregnant, theoretically here, he would hit the floor in shock but would support me no matter what since his own family has had a few 'surprises' and he was a surprise as well (oldest sister is 42, second sister is 40, he's 29).

Stress won't produce that much hCG in your system to register a positive test.

A positive pregnancy test, combined with your symptoms would indicate that you are pregnant. You should schedule a visit to your doctor as soon as possible to get confirmation.

Just to clarify...are you saying you are having your period right now? Some people do get a lighter period--not a true period but caused by implantation. There are a few reasons to have false positive tests..I cannot think of them right now, but I don't think stress is one of them. You are having symptoms though of pregnancy for sure...the positive test being the most concerning. It sounds like you don't use condoms on a regular basis. Although people think you get pregnant just on day 14 of your cycle, I got pregnant about day 18...so anything is possible. If the HCG levels in your urine are strong enough, time of day won't matter at all. You could take another test if you think this one was inaccurate, but if positive again, I would suggest you make an appointment with your doctor. Good luck to you. ps. I just looked it up in my nursing book. Blood in your urine and protein in your urine can cause false-positive tests...so if you're on your period right now, than you probably are having a false positive. As well, certain meds such as anticonvulsants, tranquilizers, hypnotics can also cause false positive tests. Hope this helps

As the other answerers have already said, stress CANNOT cause a false positive, false negatives happen, but not false positives. It doesn't matter what time of day you took the test - the hormone levels are (if anything) lower in the afternoon than the morning! You are definitely pregnant.

The other thing is: Use condoms all month!!! After ovulation is NOT the only time you can get pregnant!!! I got pregnant with my daughter about 3 days after my period finished! Only using condoms after you ovlate is not an effective method of anticonception!

Good luck and erm... congrats if they are in order!

Well hunny, Condoms are not completely effective. And stress can cause an abnormal period. But stress does not affect the what goes on the stick. I would go to your doctor and confirm the pregnancy with him/her. I personally would think you are pregnant, but only you know your body, so if you truely think there is a chance that you are not pregnant, then get a proffessionals opinion. Good luck, and if you are pregnant, Congrats. It may seem like it will make your matters worse, but pregnancy could make it better in the long run as well. So I hope everything works out for the best.
Keep me posted if you want. I am here for advice. I would love to hear about your possible pregnancy, and if you are not pregnant, let me know, because that is a rare event. I am curious as to what happens. So, if you don't mind my e-mail is: rent_head_92@yahoo.com

There are very few times when a positive test is any thing else then a positive, in other words, I would say you are pregnant. Doctors use the same tests that you find in the stores. We use the one similar to EPT, so they will take those positive results as a positive pregnancy test.

I suggest you call your doctor on monday and let them know. They can do a blood test that will confirm it 100%. This test is more sensitive then the urine tests, so they will show sooner then the urine ones. Once you have had a positive HPT, treat yourself like you are pregnant until you can get confirmation. If your doctor says that a blood test isn't needed, then ask if you could get one anyway, just to confirm it for you. Most hospital labs will do it, but you have to ask them how much it is to have it done. If a doctor doesn't order it, it will have to come out of your pocket. But if you do pay for one, they can send the results to your doctor also. That way they have it in your file. Usually it takes a few hours to get the results back, and they can be long hours to wait. But try to relax and do something fun until you find out.

I would suggest not to drink or smoke or do drugs right now. If you are on prescription medications, let your doctor know when you call to tell them, and they will know if they need to switch you, or if they are fine for pregnancy. At this point, just act like you are until it is either confirmed or not.

Good luck and I hope it's congrats!!!!!

First response tests have been known to give false positives and make a woman think she is pregnant when indeed she is not. Stress could very well be a factor as well. Stress can cause delayed or missed periods all together...i would think if u have a late period sore boobs and a positive that u are pregnant, those are just too many signs and symptoms to pass up...but i would suggest u take another test to be sure...good luck!

Absolutely stress can be a factor. Although home pregnancy tests are good they do give false positives and negatives. I have heard that you should take the test in the morning with your first morning pee. But I have always taken mine when I got the nerve up to do it . I have two children and have had many scares. When you think you are pregnant your body will act like it's pregnant. As far as your breast being sore, are they usually sore when you are on your cycle? Are you more tired then usual? There could be a million different reasons why it came out positive. My advise is to try another test. If that one is positive then I would consult your dr.? You may have gotten a false positive.

Stress, excessive exercise, poor diet, etc. can cause irregular and/or missed periods, but it will not cause a pregnancy test to read positive. The only thing that should make a home pregnancy test read positive is a particular hormone that only shows up when you are pregnant. So, I would suggest that you either go to planned parenthood or find an OB-GYN. Any of them should be able to confirm your results. No birth control (chemical or physical) is 100% effective.

It does not sound like you are ready to be pregnant, but I believe you are. The tests can be wrong and all the other symptoms could be stress, but not likely. Go to the doctor right away. Just for future reference sperm can live in your body for several days after sex. Using condoms only after you ovulate is not an effective method of BC. Using the kind with spermicide and using them correctly, and using them every single time they are 99.9% effective(which is still not 100%). I am hoping the best for you, but you need to see a doc and take control over the situation, so that you can cope with it effectivly. Good luck.

so a good distance as i be responsive to a marvelous skill being pregnant! you might have a faux unfavorable if the attempt fails to locate the HCG hormone on your urine (because of the fact your urine is basically too dilute or you attempt too early) yet its impossible to have a faux valuable. a marvelous being pregnant attempt skill that HCG hormone is present day on your urine, to a extensive adequate point to be detected by skill of a attempt. in case you have a faint valuable that then turns to a unfavorable on destiny tests -that may not a faux valuable yet a "biochemical being pregnant" - the place fertilisation and implantation has occured even nevertheless it fairly isn't any longer properly familiar adequate to adhere, and is lost in a touch not on time era (ie an fairly early miscarraige) presently afterwards. the only occasion i've got ever heard of fake positives is now and back if a woman has had IVF. they supply her HCG hormone injections interior the early ranges of the IVF technique to suppress her organic hormone cycle. now and back if the attempt is achieved too early after egg flow the residual HCG can stil be striking around in her device and could reason a faux valuable. yet even it rather is uncommon. you may desire to consistently verify with your well being practitioner in case you're confident you're no longer pregnant, yet all i will assert is that ts very uncommon if no longer impossible to get a faux valuable on a HPT! playstation do no longer wory approximately what Meg D says that nonsense. maximum women folk people have taken medicine interior the very early ranges of thought - in the previous they even locate out they are pregnant and their toddlers are fantastic. Thats basically a foul scaremongering remark to make and its no longer real.

Pregnancy tests are usually very accurate. Time of day doesn't make much of a difference with these tests if the pregnancy hormone is there it will detect it. And if they are wrong you are more likely to get a false negative then you are a false positive. My doctor uses the same kind of test when women come in to the office. Good luck :)
