I am going to Hope School soon because I am not coping in mainstream. I have just come back from Tara Hospital and they say that I am slightly autistic. Is that why I am going to Hope School. When I ask my mommy why, she says because they want me to. But my social worker says something about a learning disability. Please explain this to me.

The short answer is that autistic people don't see and can't learn social cues. They're just not wired for it anymore than your cat can do algebra. Autistic kids tend to get picked on in school, so you would be pretty miserable there. Learning disabilities do NOT mean you are slow, it means you learn differently. My daughter has one and she's a published writer. My son has this 'slight autism' you talk about and he has a job, credit cards in better shape than mine, and is planning to buy a house. I'm sharing this with their permission so you will know not to let a label determine your life.
