The people who are talking about how good the Mets pitching is, or how their pitching is the same as last year are just plain ridiculous. Don't tell me they have Pedro - they don't - not until at least after the All-Star break, and likely not until August. And Tom Glavine - at 41 years old - has stated publicly he is likely to retire after this year. He's in it to get his 10 wins this season (giving him 300 wins for his career and a rubber stamped ticket into the Hall of Fame). Let's not pretend this is Tom Glavine of the 1996 Atlanta Braves.

El Duque is the Mets' number 2 pitcher right now (behind the dinosaur Glavine) and he's also 40 years old and is currently injured. You're going to tell me that staff, which is held together with balsa wood and duct tape, is the same as last year's?

Meanwhile the Phillies have a front five of Freddy Garcia, Brett Myers, Jamie Moyer, Adam Eaton and sickeningly good phenom Cole Hamels. And - AS INSURANCE - they also have Jon Lieber, who started Opening Day last year. The Mets simply can't compete with that.

Do the Mets have big bats? Of course. Their lineup is fierece, from top to bottom. Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Alou - terrors to opposing pitchers. But the Phillies boast a mean lineup as well, and that shouldn't be forgotten. Rollins, Utley, and reigning MVP Howard are not to be trifiled with, and Rowand and Burrell can bring the bats.

The Mets will be good, but their bullpen is going to be worn out by July. There is no other team in the NL East as complete as the Phillies, and that's why they'll win the NL East this year.

And Jimmy Rollins said so. Has Reyes spoken up? Didn't think so.

The Mets have the best chance, but don't count the Phillies out. The Phil's have Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Jimmy Rollins, which is almost as good as the Mets, if not better. Everywhere else, though, the Mets are without a question, better that the Phil's. Overall, the Mets' pitching is better, because they have Martinez and Glavine, who are both still very good. Expect the Mets win the division by about 5-7 games.

The Atlanta Braves are multiple time champions so they will win the NL East this year. The Mets' luck has run out this year and the next year that they might win it all is in say 10 years.

First off the Mets have their potent lineup to thank for last year's success. It had absolutely nothing to do with their pitching.

The Mets scored 800 runs last year and it covered up a lot of bad outings.

Case in point: Steve Trachsel won 15 games with an era of "4.97" last year. He had great run support!

This year the Mets staff features a 41 year old Tom Glavine, 38 year old Orlando Hernandez, and three rookie spots that are up for grabs. You can't possible think this rotation is the strong point of the team.

If the Mets have any intention of making the playoffs or winning the division they will need to score at least 850+ runs this year to support their current pitching staff if not, Atlanta or Philadelphia will win the division this year.

My Phils will win it. They are due for a division championship. Now that the braves have finally lost and the mets losing pedro for a long while, the phillies have a very good chance. I think that they need pat burrell to step up. People like howard, rollins, and utley have proven themselves but pat really hasn't done much since his rookie year. Their pitching should be ok, getting freddy garcia from chicago will be a great acquisition.

Phillies.......we've been given our extra useful third baseman, a number of pitchers to solidify our lineup and bullpen, and we nevertheless might have an explosive offense without Aaron Rowand. confident, the Mets might are transforming into Johan Santana and in accordance to Carlos Beltran they are the "team to triumph over", i nevertheless think of they'll fall short and it fairly is totally achieveable that the Braves, with the addition of Tom Glavine, could bypass into 2d interior the East.....we are going to see what occurs yet i think of the Phils will pull it out returned..they'll start up extra useful and be extra consistant and not could pull out the win interior the final interest, in spite of the reality that that became an stunning interest to video exhibit.
