The Catholic Church believes that God himself is the author of marriage and has created it for one man and one woman.

The spouses of a valid marriage:
• Create a bond, which by its very nature is perpetual and exclusive.
• Are strengthened and consecrated for the duties and the dignity of their state.
• Are sealed by God himself in their consent to mutually give and receive one another.
• Form a covenant that is integrated into God's covenant with man: "Authentic married love is caught up into divine love."
• Have their own special grace that:
. • Perfects the couple's love.
. • Strengthens their unity.
. • Helps one another to attain holiness in their married life.
. • Helps in welcoming and educating their children.

With love in Christ.

Marriage is a Holy Sacrament that joins a Man & Woman, into a Union with not just each other, but the Holy Spirit of God.

It is a Blessing set aside by the Church, that sets standards for such a union. This is done by studying first in what is called Pre-Canna classes to see if there are doubts about a couples belief in the Sarament, which is not taken lightly. You can study everything it takes to make a good relationship, from banking accounts, to how you will raise your children.

What this does basically, besides creating a long and lasting relationship, is gives a person time to think. You both may want to bow out, before you make a huge mistake.

Hope this helps.

Marriage doesn't. Only a relationship with God Himself makes one holy. But marriage can certainly reflection God's holiness and blessing. In the Bible, marriage is a picture of the relationship we can enjoy with Jesus Christ - He being the heavenly bridegroom and his people being the bride.

god bless

I wouldn't say that marriage makes a person "holy" but it does something in the way of easing the temptation for extramarital affairs.

It doesn't. Any and all circumstances may be used to advance spirituality (I'm talking about a relationship with the One, True God, not some new age b.s. "spirituality" that Hollywood may be pushing this year). As a matter of fact, marriage might make you a terrible sinner, fighting, hating, manipulating, lying to each other, etc., etc. Interesting, isn't it?

A man is incomplete until he's married, then he's finished!

Since marriage, between a man and a woman, is ordained of God, it is of necessity sanctified whether the service is in a church or civil building. If marriage is thus sanctified, its participants are also sanctified unto the vows and promises they make, both now, unto death, and for some others (LDS sealed in temple) eternity.
