In movies, the guy always gets the girl he wants or vice versa, and everything always works out for them in the end. I'm sick of watching sappy romances....can you give me some good movies that DON'T do this? Please and thank you.

Um thats why they're the MOVIES so we can all leave are boring little lives and watch something better and more exciting. Watch some mob movies like Goodfellas or The Godfather of something. Something that deals with drugs and prostitution are always my favorite choices, simply BECAUSE it is more real to me than anytthing. Its far more prevalent than the boy getting the girl type bullshit.

you're just now figuring this out?
It's because they are written to do that. Scripts are taylored to the fancy of whatever the writer wants to public to embrace.
There are a few movies that come closer to real life though
Grapes of Wrath
Norma Rae
etc
but even these are still taylored. Norma Rae, for example, was based on a real life event, but the movie audience was tittilated with romantic notions that possibly Norma would get together with the union rep. Real life dramas have to be written to keep the audience enthrawled and listening. And also to take the audience to a place that is not their own - where they might like to be, or where they might like to imagine what they would have done differently.
That's entertainment

We watch movies to get away from the realities and inconveniences of real life. I can't tell you how many times I've wondered that same question.
As to your movie question, I don't know about movies that don't work out. Citizen Kane doesn't work out for the reporters but that's all I know of. There are some awesome books I know that stay great but don't work out in the end.

It kinda ruins the ending but My Best Friend's Wedding, Julia Roberts' character doesn't end up with the guy she wants. And in Chasing Amy, Ben Affleck's character doesn't get the girl he wants.

Real life is boring, so it never works in movies. You should watch the Boondock Saints, ain't no movie better than that.

let me tell you something:

FACT IS STRANGER THAN FICTION.

any idea what this means? it means that in books and films we can show anything, but reality is much more interesting, painful and funny as we see it in films and books.

we see so many things in the movies, but could we ever imagine about the 9/11 attack? the way it was planned and all that?

Nope. so enjoy life, it's better than books and films.

If movies weren't that way, no one would pay $10.00 to see them.
