what logical fallacy is this?

“The Patterson footage has never been debunked as a hoax. No one has ever demonstrated how it was done. Neither the original "costume," nor a matching costume, has ever been presented by honest skeptics, nor by various imposters who claim to have worn the costume.”

and this

“It's a fact that for more than 400 years people have reported seeing large, hair-covered, man-like animals in the wilderness areas of North America. It is a fact that sightings of these animals continue today. Real or not, these reports are often made by people of unimpeachable character.”

The Patterson footage? It may be authentic but it is not accepted as proof because it opens a whole new can of worms. North American unknown ape? Why has it remained undiscovered? Where are the remains? Do they collect their dead and hide or bury them? Are they the missing link? Or are they just an unknown tribe of primitive Native Americans? Or are they simply big, hairy hobos living in isolation???

This is the dilema science faces: If you find wolf hair it can be identified as wolf hair because labs have wolf hair to compare it to. If hair, scat or blood suspected to be Bigfoot's is analysied, results will just show "unknown mammal." There is nothing to compare it with.
