All of those reality shows really blow. Why do they play stupid shows with people asking each other how their latte is and when they are going to get their daddys credit card? I mean it annoys me. MTV stands for what??? What happened to Sifl and Olly anyways?

Seriously, it's about advertising dollars. Thanks to size of the Baby Boom, their kids Gen Y (that includes 15 yr olds) is HUGE!
15 year old GUYS would rather "Hang out" or play video games or shoot hoops than watch TV.

MTV knows that 15 year old girls watch TV, have lots of money to spend. They create content to attract them and then sell the ad space. This must be the case... why would they spend money on original programming if they could get the videos for free?

That is the market that is watching them now. They lost a lot of viewers from different age groups when they started playing less music, so now they are catering to the viewing age that still tunes in.

Because they buy the most music - uk top 40 been dominated by this for years and it is who the "Now ...." series of CD's is aimed at

They target that age group because that is where the money is. Mom & Dad still buy everything for them!!!
