i am trying to sell my older laptop and i need to reset it to factory settings! i want it to remove all the stuff i have on it and just go to how you would get it from the store. Anyone who has done this would be a big help.

You have to either have restore CD's or a restore partition. It really depends on what type of laptop you have, how old it is and what you've done with it since you got it.

Well if you want to get all of your data off of it, and you have the original windows cd, just wipe the hard drive and then reinstall windows on it. If you dont, you should of been prompted to create a backup disk when you first used your laptop. Pop that in, and it will reset all of your settings to factory defaults and put the original program on there. You might still need to go thru and delte your stuff. Your safest and best bet tho is to wipe the hd and reinstall windows.

I don't know if its the same for laptops as it is for PC's but you should have a system restore disk that came with the comp. If you do have one, just pop it in and it will re-install windows to factory settings.
If not, windows has a system restore utility. To find it click on start then settings then system, you'll see it there.
