I can't speak for the general group, but many males and females have made me aware of the fact that while male friends may yell and fight with each other when they have arguments or disputes, they settle their differences quickly and forget the ordeal. Women apparently do not work this way and are rather jealous and vengeful. That, at least, is what I'm getting from reading and human sources. Women CAN be mean and backstabbing when they don't get their way; I have not seen men to be as backstabbing although they can CERTAINLY be mean. I have seen that men are more up front about their displeasure than women.
Thinking about it more, women usually offer sympathy and words, but I HAVE seen men to do more kind things in their actions.
Huh. Curious.
EDIT: ...Truthteller did say "most." He never said all women do this or all men do that. Pay attention, posters, don't just ramble. If you had PAID ATTENTION, you would have noticed that he said "read the question carefully." Some of you did not do this and should actually read the question the next time you post.

Firstly, you are generalising. Both men and women can be mean or kind. Neither trait is inherent to just one gender.
Men do tend to be more aggressive and women tend to be more passive aggressive. This may be why women generally are more likely to backstab and why men are more likely to be abusive. Neither are acceptable behaviours.
As for men being more forgiving, I can't say I agree. I've seen plenty of men who can't let things go. That is totally dependant on the indvidual and not their gender.
HTH : )

Stop generalizing, "why are some women mean and backstabbing and some men kind and forgiving." is a real question, yours is biased and not worth further answering.

Women generally like to avoid conflict and are more "people pleasers" than most men are. I think and act like "a man" that way as so many of my male and female friends have told me. So it's just a generalization. I like to disagree, argue, debate, confront, whatever, then move on. I prefer the company of others that communicate the same honest and direct way.No grudges, please.

In my experience I have been in many different work environments and had many unhappy bitter experiences with women being nasty and jealous and fake and manipulative. It seems they are more competitive with other women when men are more mellow, protective and way more honest. Just saying

I think you question presumes that every woman is that way and every man is not. Way too much generalization and you have no actual information to back this up. Has there been a study that maybe nobody has heard about because otherwise your question is meaningless without some clear cut evidence to back it up.

You're stereotyping.
Look at the men who beat their wives. Nice and forgiving!!!!!!!!
Look at Angelina Jolie who helps people in Darfur. Mean and backstabbing???????/

I agree -- I do notice that women tend to be more conniving, vindictive, and "seek revenge" against men (and other women) over trivial incidents in the past.
Women are far more inherently evil and vindictive than men. Anyone that disagrees is politically correct and in denial.
Women are more likely to be conceited, stuck-up, and snobby.
I do notice that more men in society and the media tend to be more genuinely forgiving and down-to-earth.
Truth hurts.
