By powerpack, I think you are talking about a UPS or Battery Backup...right?

If so, you are looking at around $100 or more, depending on the quality of the unit and how long you want it to keep your computer running in the event of a power outage.

No - this will not prevent your computer from turning on.

NOW - If you are talking about a Power Supply (inside the computer where your power cord goes) - they are cheap $20-$40 and YES a bad power supply WILL prevent a computer from turning on. Its easy to replace...if you even have minor electrical or mechanical experience. Be aware that even unplugged, these store electricity and can give serious shocks - so be careful.

I think you're talking about a power supply. Yes a bad power supply will keep your machine starting. No power. Depending on the computer can run anywhere from $25 for a small ATX Supply to $65-75 for a larger one. If you have a Brand computer be prepeared to pay more. I replaced a power supply on an old ACER once. Since the power supply was custom made for this particluar machine by Acer it cost $245 new, $195 rebuilt. So your machine plays a role in your decision. That's why I custom Built my machine and don't by brand computers. Hope this helps.

They can run from about $20 and up. Depends on the type and the amount of power. They're fairly easy to install, but you should have someone do it for you if you haven't worked inside a computer before.
