Thats a good question. I'm a car dealer and we are constantly asking our customers what they consider a fair profit. I don't necessarily think people think it's bad, but in the car biz it is indeed a hurdle. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Whew, some of you guys really show the rock solid foundation in business and economics that must make your mamas proud.

We live in a nation of LAWS. Not opinions about right and wrong. Good and evil.

As long as a company makes a profit and doesn't break any LAWS doing it...it is completely OK, even moral.

The rest of the bs about exploiting the "poor" and "the workers" blah blah blah is just a bunch hooey.

There is nothing moral about the concept that a company "owes" charity to others because of the fact of profits. Nor is it moral that someone espouses the concept of "giving back" as a justification for claiming rights to profits.

Most don't know the difference between a profit and a profit margin. I run a small business and if you stood up the "profits" next to the "profit margin" you would be appalled that I (or anyone is willing to work 50 or more hours a week for so little.

It's not profit that is bad. It is when people making the profit get greedy and feel that they have to take advantage of poor and working class people to make their profits. Such as spiking gas prices within a few hours or minutes, overcharging and marking up profit on certain items. And ripping off people who don't even have enough money to live, in taxes.

Profit is a good thing when you are the one who's making it, and bad when it's the other guy who's making it at your expense!

Because they're not getting any of it.

PS: Wisecrack that illustrates this attitude:

Q: What's the advantage of theft?
A: Because it all goes to the bottom line.
