Why people use word "Bihari" in derogatory manner?

Word "bihari" became a kind of abuse. People use this word for any one who they feel dump.

Yea I'm not really sure, but for some reason Bihari people are associated with stupidity. However, all my Bihari friends are really smart, so I definitely don't see where that comes from.
