Most people are nosy even if they don't admit it. Its just human nature. Some of us do it covertly by reading mags and papers and gossiping with friends and others are a bit more obvious by listening in on other peoples conversation. Thats both males and females.

Most people (male and female) are nosy, to differing degrees. Other people's lives always seem to be more interesting than our own.
Besides, restaurants make money on volume, that's why they squeeze in as many tables as possible. If the eavesdroppers annoy you, you can a) lower your voice, b) turn and give them a big, evil grin, or c) start talking about "the best story you ever heard in your life," then quickly depart, leaving them frustrated and wondering what the heck you meant.

Firstly I must apologise for disturbing you on a Sunday. I know that, unlike most people who enjoy Sundays as a day of rest, you will be working hard on your collection of ladies footwear and giant African moths.
I was wondering if your cousin Hermione would be interested in adding to my collection of tongues? You have always said how her voice irritates you. And I thought this might be a golden opportunity for us to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
