My sister is having a baby any day now, she wants to name her Brianna Ashley, I personally don't like it at all. It sounds like two first names. I know it is her baby and she can name is what she wants, but who all agrees with me on this? How can I try and talk her out of it?

For the people who don't read everything I write, I said I know I can't make her change her mind, but who agrees with me that it sounds too much like two first names, I think she should change the middle name at least? Any suggestions?

But here is the thing that makes me mad, she was going to name is Cheyenne Elizabeth, but her boyfriends little sister talked her out of it because she told my sister she would call it Shay if she did that. So trust me, she is open to suggestions.

It's dumb. Tell her I said that those are just stupid contemporary names and to come up with something original. That's like somebody in the early 1900's saying "should I name her Agnes Gertrude."

I would just leave the whole issue alone. This is not the time you want to start an argument with your sister.
Focus on being a good sister and a good aunt to your little neice. Be happy for your sister and supportive of her.
Your sister is going through a lot right now and needs her sister support.
One day you may have a daughter and you can name her whatever you want. Until then, drop the whole subject and pretend to like the name for the sake of harmony in the family.

I totally agree the names don't go, she needs to choose something like Brianna Leigh. Maybe you could just ask if you can give the baby a middle name, that way you can choose something that goes and she will prob be so happy that you want to do something nice for the baby that she will let you, just don't say you don't like her chosen names!!

Just start calling the baby with the name that you like, if the mother hear you maybe she will agree to change the name before the naming ceremony.

Don't. Brianna Ashley is a lovely name.

A friend of mine had twins, a boy and a girl, and since her brother helped get her to the hospital on birth night, she allowed him to name the children. He thought a minute, and then said, "Dis is Deniece, and Dis is Dinephew."

Just tell her to combine the names into one name, like Bianley or maybe Ashianna. Tell her the uglier the name, the more beautiful the baby.

You answered your question yourself: you can't make her change the name. It's not like it's a name that would hurt the child in the long process, right? It's not your child, so she can name it what she wants to. Don't try to talk her out of it, it will make your friendship suffer.

Sorry, there's nothing much you can do. You could subtly drop names you prefer, like 'My friend just had a baby and called it Alicia' or whatever and hope she gets the hint, but in the end, it's her decision.
