I think Dave would keep it open if he were alive.

I totally agree. It is like a historical place in a way. I think Dave Thomas would be upset about it closing.

Read the article with what his son said about profits/Dave's ideals

Dave's son said: "My father taught me that profit's really not a dirty word," Thomas said Thursday, munching on a double burger with mustard, pickle and onions. The blue-striped dress his mother sewed for his sister, the original Wendy, was hanging in a display case a few feet away.

"People say, 'Well, we're going to do it Dave's way,'" Thomas said, his eyes shining at times. "Well, if you're going to do it Dave's way, then you need to close this restaurant."

I think the son listened to his heart and did the right thing

No.
It costs money to keep a building up, pay taxes, insurance, etc.
If the customers weren't sentimental enough to visit it and support it, it's time to close it down.
Does Microsoft still sell it's first MS-DOS software? Does GM keep open unprofitable factories? Does McGraw Hill still sell books no one buys?

Probably not.

What would you expect from a guy who names a hamburger chain after his daughter and then uses the marketing slogan "hot and juicy"? (and then dies of a heart attack).
