Since early this week I have been having this light cramping and brown spotting (and occasionally light pink spotting). The spotting got worse during the week and I started having a bit of lower back pain too. Then yesterday I suddenly had this heavy bright red bleeding. It has stopped now but I'm still having a bit of cramping and lower back pain. Could this have been a miscarriage?

What if I'm quite sure it wasn't just a heavy period?

If your sur you were preg. then yes this can be a MC it can sometimes take days for the heavy flow to come following a MC you can have brown spotting for weeks sometimes that just can mean that there is no longer a viable fetus an dit's in the process of MC, brown spotting is also a sign of Ectopic preg. make sure you get checked out soon.

Are you pregnant? If so, how far along are you? Those are the first questions to ask. If you know you are pregnant for sure, call your doctor. Bleeding anytime in pregnancy is cause for concern, although there are reasons for it other then miscarriage. If you had sex within the 24 hours prior to the bleeding, that could be the cause. But with the cramping, I would for sure call your doctor today. If they aren't in, go the the ER or instacare in your area. They will run some tests, might even do an ultrasound to check on the baby. If you are earlier then 6-7 weeks, they won't do an ultrasound. You can't see anything before then, so it does no good.

If you are into your second or third trimester, it could be a problem with the placenta, or cervix. It's worth checking out for sure.

Also, sometimes you can have a cyst that ruptures early in pregnancy. It can make you bleed and cramp, but won't cause a miscarriage. Sometimes cramping is normal, but cramping in the back isn't. So either call or go see someone right away. Until you can see someone, put your legs up and try to relax. The best thing you can do is to take it easy and have others take care of things for you until you can see your doctor.

If it was a miscarriage you would have heavy bleeding for more than just one day. You should go get checked out by a doctor because this could be a serious condition. My periods got so heavy last year that they took ALL of my energy away and I had to switch to a new birth control. There are so many different things that can be causing your bleeding and theres no way to tell for sure until you see a doctor and get a diagnosis.

If you are pregnant please call a doctor. Sometimes you can have spotting and bleeding during pregnancy. I've had several miscarriages. It is usually very bad cramps worse than your period. Sometimes includes a really bad back ache. If there is alot of clotting usually it is a miscarriage. The bleeding will continue for several days.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Good luck I hope you feel better.

If it was a miscarriage you'd probably be in more pain and have even mooore blood with huge chunks. My mom had a few miscarriages and one for twins, its like chunks of blood, it's really sad, if you think you're having it in early stages it can be a little bit less blood than usual, you also could still be prego and just spotting, there is early pregnancy bleeding sometimes, please check with your dr. its your best bet and the safest!

If you are or think you are pregnant, than yes, it could be a threatened miscarriage. The symptoms you are describing are similar to ones that I had and I did indeed have a miscarriage. I would get to your doctor ASAP or the ER. Good luck with everything.

You should go to the Doctor, because a Miscarriage is serious. You can get serious infections from having one without going to a Doctor. If you are wrong, and its not a miscarriage at least you don't have to worry anymore.

If you were indeed pregnant, yes it could be. Sometimes our bodies just do things like this if we aren't. Go to an OB/GYN and ask.
