I'm disappointed in the decision to let Porter go. He was the heart and soul of our defense. The fans as well as all of the players loved him. They're not going to replace him with anyone who has as much love for his teammates. I understand that they have a salary cap to contend with, but I think their money would have been better-spent on Porter than on draft picks/free agents. It's going to be a different season next year. I have a feeling this was Tomlin's first move towards transitioning to a 4-3 defense. That's just another face to leave the team...first Bettis, then Cowher, now Porter. It's a sad day in Pittsburgh...
Here's a great article I was reading. It shows what a classy guy Porter really is and was for the Steelers.

If it makes u mad join the club. But on the other hand he was a Bill Cowher guy, and everyone knew that when Bill retired Joey was leaving. he wanted more money than he was worth(remember Antwaan Randle El?) i'm glad they let El go and we'll probly be glad Joey left too. look at El's stats as apposed to his last year with the Steelers and figure out if he was worth all that money to keep him in town or not; Joey is probly going to be the same way, we'll look at his stats this time next year and say good thing we left him go. maybe not but the Steelers have a good eye for seeing where talent is going and deciding if the player is worth the money they want.

HUGE Steelers fan if you can't tell by my name Steel Man 55(Joey Porters #) He was my favorite defensive player and yes I am really mad about him leaving. On the flip side he was a cap room casualty and thats why he is gone. Porter will not be in free agency for long because he is a great player to have on your team. He brings alot of emotion to a team and it will be hard to find a team that will pay him wut he wants.
GO STEELERS!!! Super Bowl 42 HERE WE COME!!!

in case you recognize something about the Steeler's you recognize that they don't pay linebackers even as they grow old. Plus his aspect of play dropped very last year and he's only no longer well worth the money that he will call for contained in the loose agent market to the Pittsburgh Steelers. some team will over pay for him. besides the undeniable fact that the Steelers gained't. He became likely due an advantage if he became on the roster previous a particular date also. so as that they kept that funds also.

Loved him as a player, but it's time to move on. The Steelers always lose quality players every year & yet they manage to replace them pretty quickly. Have you heard anything about Lloyd, Kirkland, Brown, Greene, Gildon after they left the Steelers? No? That's because, as cold as it sounds, they served their purpose & were let go when their performance began to fall off. It's not a sentmental business. I'll miss Peezy, but the team goes on.

He will get picked up by someone. It is cap move, and he wanted more money anyway. Heard about it when it happened so I'm more accepting. He was a good player but I think with Cowher going he wanted to leave as well.
What Shootings? He was SHOT ONCE. Note: HE WAS SHOT. He was leaving a bar after watching a college football game. This isn't like he was in a Hummer Limo that got shot up. He was shot in the crossfire basically.

I am not a steelers fan, but I just wanted to say that your team did a very very stupid thing to let Porter go. Watch out, the Pats are looking in to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not like it at all.He has 60 career sacks and is not slowing down.Hopefully he does not go to another team in the AFC north. He will punish Pittsburgh for letting him go.
Imagine if Baltimore picked him up!They already have a top-notched defense.Just the thought disturbs me as a Steelers fan.

I'll miss Joey, sure this past season wasn't his best, but you can say that for every member of our team who isn't named Willie Parker. Peezy was a beast; I'm enjoying all his highlights on ESPN, my favorite being the great sack he put on Peyton Manning in the divisional round of the '05 playoffs. I just hope he doesn't go to any other AFC North team, that would just hurt my feelings so much to have to face him twice a year.
To Idiot New England Fan: It's called cap space, I don't think they really wanted to get rid of him, we just couldn't afford it.
Cheers!

I'm a lion fan i think they should pick up porter because of his fearlessness as a football and the fear that most of the league have of him voted "Si" most feared in NFL in 06 sorry case of Pittsburgh letting go good overall talent again
