What did it look like?

The level of a person's acceptance/awareness determines their ability to 'see' certain creatures and to draw/attract the same. The only real 'addendum' to that rule is for those creatures who have multi-cultural heritages; thus an 'angel' in one culture might be considered simply a 'helping spirit' in another, sans wings and whatnot.

Faires, for the most part, are nature spirits, portrayed (and often seen) as tiny because the world which they deal with is primarily small (its difficult to adminster hands-on treatment of a ruptured stem if your too-big fingers tear open the flower to get to it). They can adapt their size to suit the situation, but the intimacy of their work, coupled with the unique perspective their size gives them, means they rarely do. Like all spirits, they are difficult to photograph, although they do have enough 'power' to impress themselves 'consciously' on film if they so choose to do. In other words, you can't take a photo of them without their permission. However, they (like all spirits) can be seen 'accidentally' simply because the human mind can suddenly 'tune' into the other world for that briefest of seconds, which (since they are not expecting it) can make them suddenly 'vanish' due to the unexpectedness of the encounter. They are kinda like birds in that regard: if you keep your distance and simply watch, they will go on as normal, but if you 'participate' by actively stepping into their 'world' (they can have a rather large sphere of touchiness, so to speak), they leave quickly.

Some of what is out there is fanciful daydreaming, and some of it has some basis in truth, like it is with anything.

I have a picture of a flowerbed and in it there appears to be a fairy. Slight, bright, wings and all. Maybe it was a reallly distorted dragonfly, but it makes me happy to think I caught a fairy. When blown up, it's really awesome!
