Should nursing mothers stay away from tea/coffee so that it doesn't transmit to her infant or is it filtered?

I've heard that it does transfer through your milk; however, I've never noticed it affect my little girl the occasional times I've had a cup or two of coffee. My philosophy is MODERATION - a cup here or there is not going to do any damage. If you're still worried, however, check out the tea section of the grocery store - I get Celestial Seasonings (the brand) Moroccan Pomegranate Red (the flavor). So good and it's naturally caffeine free.

Stay away from non-mainstream herbal teas, however! There's some strange stuff in some of them that can be harmful to pregnant or breastfeeding women - my moderation rule doesn't apply here. :)

Like anything you take, tea and coffee can become transmitted to breastmilk.

No need to stay away all together, just enjoy in moderation unless baby seems to be upset by it.

Caffeine is transmitted through BM. When my baby was little, he couldn't handle it. Around the 3 month mark though he was fine, and I was back drinking 2 cups a day. Test it out and see how your baby does. I know I love my lattes!!

It will effect the infant through the breast milk. Everything mom puts in her body effects the baby via the milk.

If nothing more, it will cause upset stomachs as the caffeine gives them gas.

I know my little guy just cant handle it.
