Because Males are brought up differently in Western Culture than females and it is extremely taboo to kiss a guy if you want to be seen as or are straight.

Because in this current culture, men are taught that they have to be "hyper masculine" or have their manhood challenged. This "masculinity" is just a cultural definition, and different cultures have had different ideas of what masculinity meant. But in current America, it means not expressing your feelings, ESPECIALLY to another man, and avoiding all physical contact with other men. I read something recently in Maxim, it was part of the "unspoken guy code," that if you accidentally touch your friend's hand, pretend it never happened. Since men are taught from a young age that being gay is the opposite of being masculine (again, not true), they are also taught that it is of paramount importance to avoid anything that might remotely look like being gay. So: no physical contact with another guy. If you can't even accidentally touch a friend's hand, how can you kiss him? Women don't have this hangup because they're not taught that these kinds of things are against the "rules" of being a girl.

So far as I know, Western culture is the only culture that frowns upon physical contact between males. In Arab culture (where they are very much against homosexuality) it is not unusual for two male friends to hold hands, hug, and even kiss each other on the cheek upon greeting. Also, Latin Americans and South Americans are very comfortable with open displays of affection, regardless of gender. While Asian cultures aren't as comfortable with that kind of thing, they don't necessarily frown upon it either.
So I think it's limited to America and some parts of Europe.

Because society takes male sexuality more seriously than female sexuality. Men are always viewed as sexual agressors and women are seen as the objects of male sexuality.

So, if two women do sexual stuff, like kissing each other, or dancing with each other, or even overt sexual stuff like grabbing each others breasts or butts, it's seen as non sexual (or at most as a prelude to them both getting sexual with a guy).

But men are always seen as sexual agressors. So if a man kisses another man,or dances with him, it's seen as a prelude to one of those men sodomizing the other man. So, not only is it seen as sexual, but it's also seen as a struggle, where one of the men will "lose his manhood" (that is, will get penitrated and forced to be "the woman" by the stronger man)

Why is it so important for guys to appear masculine?
Presumably, one's masculinity is one's ability to be
a good provider and produce viable offspring - which
makes the guy more appealing to mate with.

The assumption is that men who are not homophobic
are actually homosexual.

Consequently, when you see some guy performing
a homoerotic act, then clearly they aren't being
inhibited by homophobia, so clearly they are
homosexual.

And in Western cultures, particularly in the United
States, we consider kissing erotic.

Obviously this makes lots of assumptions that are not
true (for one, there are lots of guys who are
neither homophobic nor homosexual, and that
kissing is necessarily a prequal to sex).

Interestingly, women are free to be neither homophobic
nor homosexual - because their preference is not
an issue of their femininity or masculinity, which
clearly it is with guys.

However, society loves to jump to unwarranted
conclusions based on stereotypes.

Great question. I"m assuming you live in the USA? It's because of years and years of archaic social codes and conditioning. If you were to visit other countries in Europe, you would find than men are far more affectionate with one another, and there isn't anything sexually that is associated with that affection.

Well, to be honest, there is a double-standard. Furthermore, as a male, there is something erotic to see two girls kissing. It goes along with the male fantasy of having more than one girl at once.

Because men identify themselves by their sexual prowess and their abilities, and their straitness. So a man who is gay is going to get picked on like crazy.

Personally I think its all BS.
