Despite the obvious differences, there has to be things they agree on. Please don't answer with a snide remark about either party. Lets keep this one positive and focused on topic, if possible.

They agree on nothing. They are oil and water. One says win, the other says lose.

I think that most Americans agree that Iran should not have nukes. That Iraq should not be left wide open to radical Islam, after we took out the totalitarian leader keeping those forces out.
I think if more Americans were getting the truth about what is going on over there, more Americans would support the President.
I don't think any of us wants our troops in harm's way any longer than necessary.
And not to be snide, but most of the Democrats in Congress are not well represented here.

I really don't know at this point. They all agree that Iraq is in a state of Civil War. They seem to agree in their hearts that the troops should come home. However their politics seem to have very little in agreement. I look forward to the other responses.

Good luck with getting an answer that isn't a snide remark.
Personally I find it hard to compare the two. As far as I've seen so far the Democrats have yet to present any plan on how to proceed other than to give up. I haven't read or seen any news article to date that espouses anything other than to cut and run. And just FYI I am neither a Rep. or Dem.

I think they both agree that the Iraqi government needs to step forward and take control of their own country. The only problem is that they disagree on when.

regardless of what republicans may think, democrats DO support our troops and the DO support America...so please stop with that ridiculous Democrats hate America crap.
having said that, the common ground for both parties is that both DO support the troops and i believe that neither want tons of soldiers to die...as far as how to proceed i don't really think there is too much common ground between the two.

0, none, nada, Surrender is not an option for Republicans
and surrender is the only option for Democrats
There is no where they can agree
Surrender or not to surrender is the focus and there is no middle ground/gray area
It is cut and dried between win and run away

The only thing they have in common is the soldiers. The Democrats want the war to end, but like the Republicans, they want to do it in a way where the soldiers will save face. Victory is the only way!
