If you have microsoft works there is a dictionary programme in it. Might be a good place to start

You can try www.thefreedictionary.com. Or you can open Microsoft Word, type a word, highlight it and press the shift key and the F7 key at the same time. Then a dialog box will come up with synonyms of the word you typed. And I'm sure Merriam-Webster's dictionary has a website you can use.

www.wordreference.com is good for translating from one language to another.
www.verbix.com is good for declining verbs in many different languages
www.dictionary.com is great for looking up nasty English words. It has both dictionary and thesaurus formats.
