People don't hate the Cubs, they hate the Cub FANS. But why is this? Just because Cub fans think going to the ball park, watching a losing team for 100 years, but having a blast anyway is the greatest experience EVER--well, maybe it just IS!!!
For me, I'm a White Sock; Why? Both my parents were, so, you could say I'm a product of my upbringing. I too, went through all the dismal seasons; That's what makes us fans.
But, in 2003 MY team was out of it. However my SECOND team was in--YOUR Cubs! I was on the bandwagon for them to make it all the way. We all know what happened.
This year though we all want to see the Sox and Cubs make it to the World Series. It will get down to the bottom of the ninth in Game 7 and one team will win it.
YOU already know who I'M rooting for.

Being a Cardinals fan I have to dislike the Cubs, but I do not hat them. They provide the Cardinals with a rival. The Cardinals-Cubs rivalry is the best in baseball. The games are very competitive. The best game I have been to besides playoff games are Cardinals-Cubs games. I love Wrigley field it is by far the best place to watch a game. I hope the Cards and Cubs meet in the NLCS because the reg season games are already like playoff games think of how competitive it would be if the met in the NLCS. The best matchup ever.
and the Steve Bartman incident happened in 2003
I don't know when they will win the series, but someday they will it is inevitable. And just like the Red Sox in 04 people will claim to have been cubs fans their whole lives just to say they went through it with the team, which doesn't make any sense bc the fans who last saw the Cubs win the 1908 WS are dead. That is the Day I will hate the Cubs.

It's not the team itself. It's all the excuse for not winning.Too many day games, for example. The Cubs, having 81 day games should have been used to them, and had a home field advantage. Then it was needing more revenue because of Wrigley's size. They are a cash cow for the Tribune,it isn't a revenue thing. The trib has it's own ticket scalping office.Of course you have Bartman, too. The Cubs had opportunity to win after that but didn't get it done.I think it is more that the Cubs have made more excuses as to why they don't win than they do trying to assemble a winner.
Most Cub fans aren't knowledgeable enough about the game to distinguish the difference between hype and reality. If you don't think so,ask yourself what has Wood/Prior(the two great hopes)done for you lately?Or remember Sammy Sosa?Hit a lot of one run homers, but not too many in the clutch. But until people quit paying to see mediocrity, there will be no need for ownership to succeed.Of course there all baseball geniuses who live 250 miles from Chicago who think they are the end all to baseball.Their team rolled through the playoffs only to get steamrolled by a team two games over.500 in the World Series and you listen to snappy answers from people like that.Hope springs eternal, though and maybe in your lifetime the Cubs will produce a championship team.

I don't hate the Cubs..... Worse, I'm indifferent - Don't even think enough about them to hate them. Go Cards!
Seriously - they are America's punching bag, the little team that couldn't. People are fascinated with curses and superstitions, especially in baseball, and the last great curse is the Cubs. As long as the Cubs have the curse there will be non-believers who point to a history of losing and say "you suck". The Red Sox were the most hated and sad team in baseball and had about 4 fans (maybe a few more) until they broke the curse by winning the World Series. Now there are millions of people who "have been Red Sox fans all their lives" - some are the same people who hated the Sox. But the reality is that it is easier to put down a team that is expected to lose than it is to claim to be a fan. And no one makes fun of you for liking a losing team if you claim to hate them - you have nothing to lose by saying the Cubs suck, no expectations of being disappointed. But the day the Cubs win the World Series, 500 million people who had claimed to hate Cubs will suddenly have been "fans all their lives".
And then I really will hate the Cubs ~

i in my opinion hate the cubs for some motives. a million. i'm a Brewers fan 2. Cub followers have a tendency to make excuses for years of futility 3. even as the Cubs are prevailing, the followers ascertain all and sundry is conscious of it 4. in line with annum is the Cubs year to win the international sequence one way or the different. those are my motives as to why I hate the Cubs

I don't think many people (outside of St. Louis) really hate the Cubs. Most fans look at them as the inept team that tries hard but can't get it done. Other fans look at them simply as a cursed franchise ie. Bartman incident in 2004. They haven't won the W.S. since 1908 and really haven't even come close. It seems that the Tribune (Cubs owners) spent a ton of money this off season to try and build a winner so is this their year? One thing is for sure, with Lou Pinella managing the team, they definately won't be boring!
BTW, I've been Mets fan for 20 years so I know what it's like to be stuck rooting for a loser.

HEY HEY!!! I like the Cubs. People are just haters because they can't understand that while a team is cursed, they have a huge fan base. They make fun of them because, they haven't had much success during their history. They can break their curse. Good luck to the Cubs and their fans in 2007.

I'm a Cubs fan and I feel that people don't like the Cubs just like people didn't like the Red Sox because of the curse.

The Cardinals & White Sox fans mainly hate The Cubs.
The Cardinals because it is a natural rivarly dating back to the early 1900's. Much like The Yankees/Red Sox rivarly.
Whiny Sux fans simply hate The Cubs because they are jealous.
Those southsiders cannot stand the fact The Cubs are Chicago's #1 baseball team, with a bigger and stronger fan base who are MORE loyal and dedicated to their team.
EDIT:
Please note that most people will say:
"cubs stink" or "cubs suck" without giving an actual detailed answer are more than likely to be whiny sux fans.
