DO NOT install a larger breaker unless it's been soundly established that the circuit can handle it! I recommend contacting a reputable electrician for a consultation as a minimum. Be carefull you don't burn your house down because overloaded circuits can be very dangerous and are the leading cause of home fires.
One important thing to remember...If you have to ask, you should seek help...for safety reasons.

The 90 amp breaker is tripping because you are probably drawing close to 90 amps when everything is running. The 200 amp breaker is not tripping because you are not drawing 200 amps. The 90 amp breaker might not be the correct size. Check the size of the conductors between the meter and the 90 amp breaker, and also between the 90 amp breaker and the 200 amp breaker inside the house. If the conductors are 3/0 copper or larger, or 4/0 aluminum or larger, you can replace the 90 amp breaker with a 200 amp breaker. That will solve the problem.

The common sense here is that when a breaker trips like that it will eventually go bad and become easier to trip and such. You claim you replaced it and it was good then went bad again.
You obviously have too much heat (AMPS) running through that breaker when your stuff is on.
NOW...changing the breaker to a 100 amp is suicide...that's a no no.
The easier way to solve this is to Change your wiring from one of your appliances in your breaker to a separate sole breaker by itself if you have room to put another breaker in the box.
Normally there is a 110 slot left open. You trace which wire is running on the same circuit and change it and put on another leg separate breakers.
This way you have legally transferred heat to a legitimate breaker not overloading any other breaker and keeping your home safe from fires and such.
Electricity is something not to play with and many people make the mistake by adding a higher breaker and that is taboo.
You'll be filing Homeowners Insurance when your House burns down if you do that! NEVER add a higher breaker because it trips NEVER,.

I'm no guru on this, but my understanding is this, the 90 service outside the house is the main supply that feeds in 90amps of 220 volts service to the house that is broken down inside the house at you internal breaker box, which in turn feeds the house breakers to various areas of the house.
If you are running too many havey appliances in the house at the same time, i.e., washer, dryer (which runs a heavier power load) dishwasher, microwave and so on, you put a heavy enough drian on the external breaker to cause it to trip before your inside breakers.
I would recommend not running too many heavy-use appliances at the same time. if that fails I would consider opening the breaker box inside the house so you can see the wiring, (no touchy the wire!!) look to see if the wires comming into the house are copper or aluminum. depending on how old your home is, there was a time for a whiole that many homes were built with the main power wiring (90amp) was feed with aluminum wiring which was, at the time, considered less expensive, lighter and as effective as copper. If you have aluminum comming from your main breaker into the house, have it replaced as soon as you can.

I must be getting old because it took me a while to figure this out.
Here's what happened. Because your service disconnect is in a separate box located outside your house , some boy genius- whom hopefully you don't know -was able to change the panel box to a 200 A box w/ o getting either the local power company or a licensed electrician involved in the project or killing himself in the process.
Ignore all those nice big numbers on the panel box because they are bogus.
You have a 90 Amp service and luckily the main breaker is doing exactly what it was designed to do - blow when overloaded.
To remedy this situation you need to call a licensed electrician who will do what needs to be done.
Good luck and go easy on the amp loads until you get this problem fixed.

Don't play with it you are only asking for trouble. It sounds like your original service 'was' 90 amps, and that somewhere along the way someone added what you seem to think is the 'main' 200a subpanel. I may be wrong but from what you described all electric first goes through the 90 a breaker before it reaches the 200. Sounds like an illegal service upgrade to me. Call an electrician.

You need to call an electrician. Check and see if the wiring to the meter (from the town) is actually 200 amp (usually it is). Check to see if the meter is 200 amp (usually it is). Check to see if the wiring from the meter to the 90 amp box is 200 amp and finally if the wiring from the 90 to the house is 200 amp. If it all checks out, remove the 90 amp box. My guess is that you may need to re-run wire capable of handling 200 amps to your main panel inside from the meter. The 90 may be there because the wiring can't handle 200 amps.

You need a upgrade to your service. The meter and 90 amp disconnect outside is not 200 amp. Depending on where you live if you need a permit. Arrangement with the power company to cut the power. Replace all components outside with 200 amp rated parts, get a inspection, call back the power company to reconnect your service.
