how many piranhas can i put in a 25 gallon long tank, for about a couple of months? they're going to be about 1 - 1.5". what kind of filter would i need for this size of a tank? type of live plants? what other fish can be with them?

That's really too small for pirahna. You could keep 4-5 at that size in the tank for a few eeks probably, but no more and not for much longer if at all. Piranha need space to function well. Yu'll need a good hang on the back power filter for the tank. Whisper is a popular brand. Yes, you can keep live plants with pirahna, just be sure to do the research needed to keep plants. There is way more to it than just tossing them in the tank. I wouldn't recommend you hose any other fish with a growing school of piranha, it's just asking for trouble if another fish becomes sick.

No more than 4 fish for a tank that size, remember they can get as large as 6 inches.
There really aren't any fish that wont become lunch when a piranha is hungry, but i have seen feeder fish "adopted" by them and never eaten. (usually the one fish that's left alive after a feeding, the piranha seem to get used to it and accept it as one of them.)
As far as plants go, whatever you like. The fish could care less (LOL), and any hang on tank filter that moves the water at least once an hour is fine as long as your maintenance is kept up.

i wouldnt put any other fish with them. the best way to find the answer is to ask a store. i think you need one that can filter the entire tank in a hour. plants would be like the amazon where they live.
