Why is it that 20mm bullets and the rigors of space travel cannot destroy supermans suit... but Lex Luther can stab a piece of kryptonite through it to shank the man of steel??

Part of Superman's invunlrability is sort of a force field this only works on things close to his skinn that is why the suit is safe from space and bullet but Kryptonite can damage it.

If you go by comics continuity, his suit is protected through his own invulnerability (so to speak)...the bullets and space were ok...as he was healthy. Standing on a landmass filled with kryptonite, then being stabbed by kryptonite nullified his invulnerability.

perhaps some of supermans awesome powers have seeped into the suit after many years of wearing it. you also mentioned that the suit is harmed only by kryptonite, supporting my theory that the suit has absorbed some of supermans alien traits.

Its simple dude. Supermans suit has the invulnerability that superman has and its only weakness therefore would be kryptonite.

Easy question,it's because once exsposed to kriptonite supermans Aura which is caused by the sun is completely dropped.over time if you notice his suit gets torn only on few occasions because he can make his aura depending on it's level at that time exudefrom his body it can also be placed around objects he touches but I think they got rid of that little trick,So it's just that it was drooped due to the kriptonite that was all over that island.
