Get one of those small tripods so that the camera stays very still. Don't use a flash but instead a lam on each side of the camera. And, if your camera has a macro mode that would work best. If not, use an editor to zome in after snaping the picture.

Light and environment are important. Try getting a clear background of one colour, and with plenty of light around it. You can/should turn off your flash because it can overexpose pictures as well.
On your cam settings, you could try setting the light environment to either incandescent or fluorescent, based on the type of light you use. You could also try setting the camera's settings to purposefully over- or underexpose the picture, since that sometimes has a real nice effect as well.
Finally, if you still can't get the kind of picture you want, try to just get an original picture that looks somewhat okay and nice it up in Photoshop or something. Just make sure you don't make it so the jewelry comes out looking completely differently than it really is, otherwise ebay users may feel cheated.
Oh by the way, try setting your camera's resolution to the maximum it can be for clarity purposes. You can always downsize the picture later before you upload it anyway.

Cheers.

Lighting is very important. Try to place light directly above the object and shoot it without a flash. The flash will cast harsh light on the object.

Hi. Select ' Macro ' mode and try to use natural light, not the flash.
