so i had sex last night and i wasn't on birth control, but if i was to take it today would it help prevent pregnancy or would it not take effect for a couple of days?

The only method that would have even a modicum of efficacy at this point would be Plan B birth control (the morning after pill).

Oral contraceptives have strict regimens about when and how you take them. If you took the pill now, it would do nothing to prevent ovulation (and thereby pregnancy)...which is what the pill is designed to do.

The chemicals need to be in your system BEFORE the possibility of ovulation; taking them for a few days and only after you've had unsafe sex is like closing the gate after the horse has run away.

I would recommend that you start being more responsible. Go to Planned Parenthood or your doctor and get educated about ALL methods of birth control and how to use them; then pick one and USE IT.

If you're just starting to take birth control it doesn't go into effect until about 7 days if taken correctly.

There is the "Morning after Pill" whch is different from your regular pill. Take that.

no taking it today could be harmful if you became pregnant you best bet would be to go to your DR.
