Nothing, they are a communist organization. Now if you had asked what has the ACLU done to hurt America I could list a lot.

ACLU is one of those organizations that lives by the rule "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it"
The police, political administrations, etc are always going on about how it would be easier to have this or that ability to do their job. The problem is that if given some of those abilities they would gain the right to destroy basically all American values. ACLU protects against wishful thinking laws and issues that happen when people don't stop to consider the consequence of passing that law.
The ACLU is a civil rights organization who prime job is to keep the rights and liberties of people intact. It is the vast amount of organizations like the ACLU that monitor our government that keeps our government and society honest. Those who complain about the ACLU would much rather have a dictatorship on the Hollywood made belief that the world would be a better place or some similar nonsense.

Nothing. I'm a Democrat but I don't like the ACLU I think it has put Democrats in a bad light. We're not all liberals or hippies, I think the ACLU should stay away from the public spotlight.

While the idea behind the ACLU is to protect rights, generally they champion stupid causes. I mean honestly, who cares if you say merry Christmas or not, or helping criminals get off death row, because they were just not smart enough to not commit murder, and of course prisoners rights. I mean come on.

By preserving the spirit of the Constitution as it was meant to be interpreted and by ensuring the rights, liberties and freedoms of all accused as guaranteed in the Constitution; they have prevented many injustices in the past.
Just because someone is accused of a heinous crime, that person MUST under our Constitution be considered innocent until PROVEN guilty by a court of law by his/her peers, regardless of how unpopular the person may be; that is the LAW. Too often over-zealous police and/or prosecutors are so convinced of a person's guilt that they hide exculpatory evidence or break the law to convict a person, and we must remember that ANYONE can be accused of a crime... and recent DNA evidence has caused many on death row to be released after it was shown that they were innocent, and others by review of procedures that proved that they did not receive a fair trial. The ACLU is there to ensure and protect our Constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties against abuse.

The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:
Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.
Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.
Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.
Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.
The American system of government is founded on two counterbalancing principles: that the majority of the people governs, through democratically elected representatives; and that the power even of a democratic majority must be limited, to ensure individual rights.
Majority power is limited by the Constitution's Bill of Rights, which consists of the original ten amendments ratified in 1791, plus the three post-Civil War amendments (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and the 19th Amendment (women's suffrage), adopted in 1920.

They basically uphold the constitution. Regardless of what they think how a person is using that. The problem is one of a camel's nose under the tent: Once the nose gets in, the camel is in the tent.
I wasn't terribly fond of them until I saw what this administration has been doing, and beleive me, we need them. Hmmm... Bush claims to be a strict constitutionalist, why would he complain?

The ACLU was involved in:
- voting rights for blacks, something the ACLU's critics are against
- the Scopes trial, ensuring quality education instead of cretinism
- fought to defend the rights of blacks and Japanese against witch hunts and lynchings (something the reich wing want sooooo much to do)
- fought for integrated schools and equal education
- protected people against illegal search and seizure
- ensured the Miranda warnings are given to suspects
- fought to make racial discrimination illegal (which REALLY must piss off the christianazis of today)
- protected the right to peaceful protest, something Chicken George is fearful of to the point of hysteria
- protected the right to have contraceptives (how would so many republicans, including Chicken George, get away with rape if this didn't exist?)
- protected the right to buy mailorder porn (republicans couldn't get any if they had to buy it openly in stores)
- the first legal agency to call for Nixon's impeachment (no doubt infurating those who hate democracy)
- ensured that husbands had a right to death benefits if a wife died, something that didn't exist before (oh, that's right, the reichwingers think women should be barefoot, ignorant and pregnant....)
- protected the right to free speech and expression, something the reTHUGnicans hate with a passion (unless you agree with them, of course...)
- protected foreigners in the US from illegal searches (Arar would like to talk to them about this one...)
- protected women from terrorism and violence by anti-abortionists
- protected black voters against gerrymandering
- the right not to be harassed and threatened by other's religions (Lee v. Wiseman)
- fought for the right to prosecute police who fail to enforce
restraining orders; the case was lost, protecting incompetent police from lawsuits and allowing ex-husbands to murder their ex-wives before being arrested (no wonder the reichwing was happy about this case...)
- fought against unwarranted wiretapping by the NSA (which annoyed Bu**sh** fellaters no end)
- fought the Treasonous Acts I and II - oops, "Patriot act"
Small wonder so many fascist red c_nts are against the ACLU. It prevents them from murdering, imprisoning and raping anyone they don't like.

The ACLU may pick some of the most despicable defendants, including Oliver North, but they are consistent and honest, something that cannot be said of their critics.
The loudest critics are brownshirts, usually made brown from them wallowing in their own pig sh|t.
By the way...I call the crybabies a "red cent" because their opinion isn't worth the two cents to put it in.

The ACLU is non partisan. If your rights are being violated by a very strict Constitutional measure, they will go to bat for you. They are the watchdog on governmental power. As conservatives, you should embrace them and their cause.
